The Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety Programs develops and deploys the Environmental, Health, and Safety programs within Dean Foods through ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations, standards, codes, and Company policies. This position utilizes Continuous Improvement tools and works directly with Sr. EHS Manager, EHS Directors, and Sr. leaders who provide input and responsibility for field execution of the programs. This position is responsible for developing and leading a corporate team to meet and exceed compliance with PSM, RMP and Dean Foods EHS programs. The Director of EHS Programs also supports and leads certain enterprise wide goals and initiatives. This position reports directly to the Vice President, Environmental, Health and Safety and has multiple direct reports.
Engages in the responsibilities of a Dean Foods high level Leader requiring strong leadership, planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating and delegating.
Drives management of employees to ensure effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action and performance management.
Improves the quality of and ensures the effective execution of safety and environmental management processes by standardizing regulations, policies, standards and best practices.
Oversee EHS audit program
Actively involved in a proactive safety and environmental program.
Development, maintenance, enforcement and reporting of PSM, RMP, Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space Entry, Wastewater management, Solid Waste management, Hazardous Waste, Universal Waste, Used Oil, Storm Water programs and all other required policies / programs associated with environmental, health, and safety.
Collaborates with EHS Directors and facility management members in the development and execution of consistent safety and environmental management programs.
Executes, measures, and monitors processes to assess the overall safety and environmental performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, and guiding teams to achieve.
Supports the partnership with risk management (operations) to identify trends and opportunities for improvements in tools, training or processes such as ISN.
Implements and Directs accident investigation programs, develops accident trends, and develops programs for improving performance.
Works with Transportation Safety Program Manager and Fleet Safety leadership on common safety and environmental issues as they relate to distribution and transportation to maximize organizational effectiveness.
Co-administrator of internal EHS portal that houses all policies, procedures, KPI's, audits, and tracking tools. This position will be a key driver in the execution and deployment of the tool.
Performs other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years EHS experience or additional years of experience with an alternative to degree
Degree in an EHS, Engineering discipline preferred or additional years of experience with an alternative degree.
Possesses Safety and Environmental management and program implementation skills.
Significant experience with PSM/RMP regulations
Possesses working knowledge of regulatory requirements for federal and state programs, processes and program implementation strategies.
Strong analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and outcomes.
Experience in training and influencing staff level on Continuous Improvement (CI) program initiatives related to safety, health and environmental.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change and influence.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail.
Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines is required.
Ability to select, coach, develop, engage and retain a team of employees.
Food industry experience is a plus.
