The Director of Educator Preparation Programs (EPP) works collaboratively with the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services to provide leadership for all educator preparation programs, including curriculum, assessment, accreditation, policies, and personnel. The Director works closely with Office of Educator Preparation program staff to manage clinical field placements, establish and support BK-12 and community college partnerships, and ensure compliance with national and state accreditation standards. The Director supervises the Associate Director of Clinical Experiences and Pathway Partnerships and the Associate Director of Assessment and Accreditation. The Director works collaboratively with faculty across 5 academic colleges and more than 20 academic programs to implement initial and advanced educator preparation programs.

Required Qualifications

Terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from a regionally accredited college or university in education, higher education administration, or a related field.

Three years of BK-12 public school teaching experience.

Experience with curriculum development in higher education.

Experience leading a diverse staff and resolving day to day issues with staff and students.

Knowledge of regional and/or disciplinary accreditation standards and reporting practices.

Established record of relationship building and partnership activity with BK-12 public school and/or school district administrators.

Evidence of strong decision-making and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated project management skills.

Record of supporting teacher preparation and development in the service of diverse, marginalized communities.

Demonstrated commitment to social justice and educational transformation.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in higher education, online, and/or face-to-face.

Experience in higher education administration.

Involvement with educator preparation program accreditation such as Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) or Association for

Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).

Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership Duties:

Provides leadership for the daily operations and essential functions of the Office of Educator Preparation Programs (OEPP) including supervision of the Associate Director of Clinical Experiences and Pathway and Partnerships and Associate Director of Assessment and Accreditation.

Monitors research and trends in educator preparation across the state and in the field and communicates relevant information to educator preparation programs.

Serves as a liaison and CMU representative to the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) regarding curriculum revisions, state mandates, and innovative programming.

Facilitates the implementation of state-mandated educator preparation initiatives.

Serves as the CMU Educator Preparation Program (EPP) representative to state level organizations such as Directors and Representatives of Teacher

Education Programs (DARTEP) and the MDE.

Serves as a liaison to all EPP programs across the university.

Participates in developing initiatives that support student success and are aligned with the university's mission, vision, values, and priorities.

Establishes an ethical and collegial work environment and promotes a collaborative, accountable and inclusive team.

Strengthens employees by being communicative and a talent-builder that develops team attributes, furthering unit goals.

Management Duties:

Manages, implements, and assesses the effectiveness of the EPP shared governance system.

Coordinates the EPP shared governance committee assignments.

Serves as the main point-of-contact for inquiries involving regulations and policies related to educator licensure, certification, and accreditation requirements.

Provides support to OEPP staff to resolve student issues related to educator licensure.

Provides oversight for CAEP accreditation and EPP reporting such as data pack preparation, program assessment, and data analysis reporting.

Provides oversight and support on special events related to educator preparation such as the Students Educating Every Child (SEEC) Conference, articulation agreements; and off-campus program offerings.

Collaboration Responsibilities:

Works collaboratively with faculty to support specialized accreditation efforts across the college including NAEYC, COAPRT, CIDA, NASAD.

Collaborates with the Dean's Office on system support for program assessment data.

Establishes and maintains excellent communication and positive relationships with both internal and external partners.

Builds a sense of community across diverse populations, including across grade level programs.

Collaborates with deans/associate deans regarding EPP curriculum, accreditation, personnel, and policies.

Works collaboratively with the Dean's office to establish the annual budget to support cooperating teachers, university supervisors, teacher candidates, and the work of the OEPP.

Works collaboratively with the Dean to establish new BK-12 partnerships and to support educators.

Works collaboratively with department chairs to ensure course scheduling and modalities support the timely progression of teacher candidates through to program completion.

Serves on the Dean's Advisory Council.

Performs other duties as assigned.
