What you'll do
Provide oversight and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local legislation and codes governing transportation including those mandated by the Department of Transportation, lead Airgas LLC Central Division Fleet Safety and Compliance team.
Drive both strategic and short term goals and objectives as established for Airgas LLC Central Division Fleet Safety and Compliance group.
Develops and communicates policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines and to ensure best practices for the overall safety and health of the DOT employees, DOT Drivers, and Stakeholders.
Identifies company safety training needs related to DOT sanctioned operations and develop and coordinate safety training programs.
Develop, provide and/or coordinate safety training for all new DOT employees/ DOT Drivers and refresher training for existing DOT employees and DOT Drivers.
Provide consultative guidance and information to Leadership Teams on DOT-EHS performance, priorities, risks, costs, major issues/concerns and interpretation of regulatory requirements.
Plan and coordinate Transportation, Security and SMS Audits of zone distribution facilities to assure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
Provide guidance in the development and implementation of corrective actions to address any gaps identified as a result of audits.Calibrate Transportation, Security and SMS Auditors to assure consistent audit performance and gap closure effectiveness.
Support regular communications with internal customers to calibrate support expectations.
Performs as Subject Matter Expert in support of distribution zones for all transportation issues involving regulatory requirements, pipeline operations and rail activities.
Prioritize and coordinate team activities to address at-risk sites and at-risk drivers by analyzing data provided by Preventable Motor Vehicle Accident reports, Recordable Injuries, Task Performance Issues, DriveCam performance, DOT Roadside Inspection Violations and On Board Computer performance.
Develop and coordinate appropriate intervention activities to reduce motor vehicle accidents and injuries.
Lead Root Cause analysis for Potential Serious Safety Incidents.
Bachelor's level degree in environmental sciences, engineering, safety or related discipline preferred.
10 years in transportation industry to include a minimum of 7 years DOT/Fleet Safety and 5 years in a managerial role
Maintain all training and qualification requirements.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities and capacity to change organizational culture as it relates to HSEQ.
Self-directed scheduling of travel and locations to meet needs of business and
Strong Product line knowledge of industrial gas equipment.
Possess excellent written and verbal communications with all internal and external customers.
Facilitate group training sessions as needed.
Must be computer literate: medium level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint including the ability to learn Google Business Applications.
Ability to work extended hours and respond to emergencies, including nights & weekend, as business needs dictate; communication device (phone) to be carried at all times.
Ability to analyze reports.
Ability to travel either by vehicle or airplane.
Able to talk, hear, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel or crouch.
Specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus objects.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
Ability to enter and exit cab of tractor multiple times per day, when required.
Office setting 25% of work time.
Hazards while in the field require the use of personal protective equipment (i.e. hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, atmospheric monitor and safety shoes).
May be exposed to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts.
