JOB TITLE:

Director, Disability Support Services

JOB PURPOSE:

The Director is responsible for the overall management, personnel and operational functions of Disability Support Services (DSS) supporting the scope and mission of Student Affairs at the University. DSS collaborates with members of the campus community to create comprehensive learning environments ensuring students have access through the provision of accommodations. The Director provides training, technical assistance and consulting services to faculty, staff, administration and students including universal design, reasonable accommodations, as well as information regarding local, state and federal legislation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative leadership, training and supervision for the University Disability Support Services (DSS) professional staff, including disability resource coordinators, administrative support staff, interpreters, readers, test proctors and note-takers.

  • Manage proactive collaboration with campus community members to create sustainable learning environments by providing training, technical assistance and guidance on universal design, reasonable accommodations, disability rights and responsibilities, technology, architectural and programmatic barriers, and local, state, and federal legislation related to disabilities.

  • Provide leadership and collaboration in campus consultation and outreach activities, including serving on committees, developing and recommending policies and procedures that promote universal design in programs and facilities, anticipating changes that may create or remove barriers and advising the campus community, as appropriate.

  • Manage the provision of accommodations resources (e.g., interpreters, note-takers, alternative material formats, test accommodations, etc.) for students with disabilities, maintaining a caseload while ensuring timely delivery and quality service.

  • Conduct intake interviews, collaborate, review medical documentation and develop personalized support plans tailored to each student's unique needs, fostering their academic success.

  • Manage accurate and confidential records of all disability related communication, student accommodations, resources offered and outcomes. Utilize data to inform decision-making and program improvements. Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Disability Studies, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Developmental Education, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, or a related area.

Experience: 7 years of progressively responsible work-related experience in disability services.

  • Demonstrated expertise in disability accommodation collaboration and planning.

  • Knowledge of electronic records and data management programs used in disability services.

  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's level degree.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, as well as relevant case law related to disability in higher education.

  • Knowledge of medical and psychological conditions, auxiliary aids and resources, and reasonable accommodations and adjustments for individuals with disabilities.

  • Awareness of current professional standards and best practices in disability support resources within higher education.

  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role to include budget planning.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
