Blue Shield of California is seeking a Director of Digital Product Management, Employer/Broker Experience who will be responsible for leading the strategy, roadmap and prioritization for transforming the way we engage our employers and brokers through digital channels. This leader must build, inspire and guide the Employer Digital team to deliver best in class experiences for our customers employees and benefit manager. This entails understanding the member journey from onboarding, to decision making that leverages transparency tools for treatment costs and quality, to engaging them in their wellness and care or condition management programs. This leader will be must ensure the team has deep insight into the nuances among employer and brokers in different lines of business and can deliver digital products and experiences that help employers manage their costs, administer health care plans for their employers, and ensure ease of doing business. Success in the role looks like contributing to rapid growth in our self-funded, national accounts, and upper market customers as well as delivering on the needs of our mid-large and small business customers.

Key Responsibilities:

This role combines digital domain expertise with business strategy, competitive and customer insights, employer/broker needs, and digital platforms and technology. Ultimately this person must build and lead a high-performing team that meets the needs of employers with both administrate staff and employees as users. This leader and their team must be able to anticipate emerging requirements and customer expectations, build products that engage and delight employees in ways that improve their health and lower costs, and provide ease of use to health benefits managers and other stakeholders.

This leader will work with a cross functional team including our internal partners and executives of our commercial business unit, technology leaders and engineers, UX leaders, and external stakeholders in a fast paced, evolving market environment. They will be accountable for the Employer/Broker digital roadmap across all channels, product development and delivery, KPI management and other metrics.

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate is customer-centric, passionate about creating a great user experience, technically savvy and a natural collaborator. They should have strong business acumen and be able to serve as a strategic thought partner to their top internal customers, the SVP and VPs of our group lines of business. Experience in healthcare is required, a knowledge of the self-funded market segment a very strong plus.

The successful candidate will have proven leadership experience demonstrating the ability to get results at both a strategic and tactical level, convey a compelling vision, and motivate a team with well-defined goals, personal leadership and a commitment to attracting and retaining the best talent. This individual should be able to build build best-in-class digital capabilities, processes and methodologies best suited for the Blue Shield culture and able to compete effectively in the market. This person must have deep understanding and experience in leading a product management function and the ability to inspire and influence. They will keep abreast of the rapidly evolving digital landscape and advanced or emerging capabilities such as machine learning. They should maintain a knowledge base of and the ability to assess relevant vendors and strategic partners who can help Blue Shield achieve its goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Development, People Management, and Culture: Provide direct and strong leadership for a team of digital product professionals, ensure ongoing learning and professional career pathing, and model a data-, market-, and customer-driven mindset. This leader must be able to strengthen fundamental digital product management processes, planning, and execution capabilities and establish a culture of collaboration within and across teams.

  • Digital Product Strategy, Product Roadmap and Product Management: Responsible for defining the digital employer/broker experience product strategy and multi-year product roadmap. Accountable for delivery and execution against the roadmap including adoption, go-to-market/business readiness with key partners, and strong measurement methodologies. Responsible for thought leadership and managing relationships with stakeholders across the organization, establishing priorities for the employer digital portfolio and establishing frameworks and rigor in core team processes, planning and measurement.

  • Stakeholder management: Communicate the vision and roadmap to senior stakeholders. Create strong relationships within and across teams that drive efficient, effective execution and business outcomes. Serve as the digital team's relationship owner with executives across our commercial business unit and other leaders.

Education, Requirements and Attributes:

  • University Degree (B.S./B.A.).

  • 10 - 12 years of digital product management experience with a demonstrated track record of successful delivery

  • Versatile leader and strategic thinker able to deal with ambiguity and manage multiple competing priorities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to deliver executive level presentations on the strategy and vision behind the digital roadmap for Employers and Brokers.

  • Proactive and creative problem-solving skills; excellent organizational skills; and attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to lead, build relationships, influence, and work effectively in a highly cross-functional organization

  • Effectiveness in defining business value, time-to-market, and trade-offs

  • Data-driven and design-centered approach to product development and management

  • Experience working on digital products within large legacy enterprise environment. This means understanding how digital technology can work in the context of enterprise architecture. The ability to balance agile and other methodologies with planning processes that are sometimes waterfall, sometimes iterative

  • Experience with establishing consistent product management frameworks across product discovery, delivery, and readiness/ adoption to drive maturity of the product management process

  • Healthcare industry, provider or payer side experience. Consumer digital health or EMR/EHR experience are pluses, but not required

Experience working in agile development environment and leading / collaborating with engineers, scrum teams and UX designers.
