  • Job Description

As the Director of Design & Construction, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the visual and emotional landscape of Universal Studios Hollywood (USH) and CityWalk (CW). You'll lead the design, construction and execution of retail, food & beverage, area development, and non-attraction projects, ensuring they align with Universal's creative vision and uphold the highest standards of quality and brand integrity.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Oversight: Provide comprehensive oversight for the execution of all Placemaking, area development, and non-attraction projects, from conception to completion.

  • Creative Vision: Uphold the creative vision and Universal standards across all USH/CW venues, ensuring consistency and excellence in guest experiences.

  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with the Senior Director, Design & Planning to coordinate implementation teams and vendors, ensuring creative and budget/schedule parameters are met.

  • Code Compliance: Collaborate with the Senior Director, Facility Design to review drawing packages, ensuring scope adherence and code compliance.

  • Communication & Reporting: Prepare presentations and status updates for senior management at Universal Creative (UC), USH, CW, and Universal Parks & Resorts (UPR), keeping stakeholders informed and engaged.

  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and oversight to team resources throughout the development and delivery of project phases, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

  • Team Development: Proactively participate in team building and mentoring activities, nurturing talent, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Operational Excellence: Offer input on operational and implementation aspects of projects, including budget, schedule, code requirements, and selection of project resources. Develop strategies for efficient project execution.

  • Safety & Compliance: Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) responsibilities, adhering to established USH policies, procedures, and training.

  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success and growth of the organization.

  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in design and construction management, particularly within the entertainment or hospitality industry.

  • Required knowledge of the process of design, development, contracting and construction.

  • Required knowledge and working experience with thematic materials & finishes.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams towards project success.

  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.

  • Commitment to upholding Universal's standards of quality, creativity, and guest satisfaction.

Additional Requirements:

  • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
