Director (Department Chair) of the School of Agriculture. Essential Functions

Provide sustained and successful leadership to fulfill the mission and goals of the School of Agriculture (SOA). Serve as the chief strategic planning officer and oversee budgets within academic, research, service, and outreach activities in the SOA. Acquire and manage resources and secure external funding for research and scholarly activity.

Lead, grow, and contribute to an effective team of faculty and staff. Work with the faculty and administration to build, grow, and sustain programs of study. Market programs and recruit, retain, and mentor students from diverse backgrounds and constituency groups, including FFA and 4-H.

Teach classes and conduct research. Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff. Oversee the Shipley Farm, Nursery Services Center, Hyder-Burks Agriculture Pavilion, Hyder Farm Property and Oakley Farm.

Participate in campus governance and represent the School of Agriculture on university committees. Engage with alumni and community organizations, participate on external boards and councils, and serve the agricultural community of Tennessee. Perform other duties as assigned. Report to the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Human Ecology.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution in one of the academic program areas offered by the School of Agriculture or closely related area. Qualified for tenure and rank of associate professor or higher in the School of Agriculture.

Demonstrated record in teaching, research, outreach and service at the college/university level. Proven leadership and administrative ability. Proven ability to create and foster strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability to manage budgets.

Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of an ability to advocate programs and recruit students across a wide variety of settings and constituency groups. Demonstrated record of leadership in professional organizations.

Demonstrated ability to provide innovative visioning, goal-setting, and strategic planning. Experience securing external funding. Experience managing personnel.

Effective communication skills. Experience with production agriculture.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Commensurate with education and experience. 12-month tenured faculty appointment. Benefits Information

Tennessee Tech offers a competitive benefits package.Benefits include the accumulation of two (2) vacation days per month and one (1) sick leave day per month, and thirteen (13) University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits.
