Janssen Research & Development LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company, is recruiting for the Director of Data Science Portfolio Management within Janssen Research & Deveopment (JRD) Data Science organization. The primary location for this position is flexible - either; New Brunswick, NJ; Titusville, NJ; Raritan, NJ; Spring House, PA; Cambridge, MA; or New York City, NY.

In this role you will partner with TA/function data science leaders, clincal teams and Global Development/Feasibility Center of Excellence (FCoE) to define and prioritize a portfolio of high impact use cases in alignment with TA/Function strategy and the overall JRD Data Science strategy. You will also lead a team of analysts power trial feasibility and other advanced data science use cases including leveraging Real-World Data (RWD) for patient journey, trial benchmarking, etc.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Data Scientists/Analysts who are responsible for generating data driven insights and coordinating all end to end activities with vendors in support of development of all analytical products

  • Drive innovative approaches to insights generation, including use of real world data, clinical data and operational datasets to continue to raise the bar in R&D, trial operations and feasibility.

  • Lead in a highly matrixed environment with cross functional teams of TA/functional representatives, data scientists, software engineers, external partners (when relevant), etc.,

  • Closely partner with the Data Science Analytics and Data Platform teams to execute on the priorities; pragmatically build a roadmap to deliver the user cases, from test and learn, to scale up deployment.

  • Develop and drive processes for workflow management, intake of insights needs and on regular intervals run workshops to gather feedback from stakeholders and implement agile change management on a regular basis.

  • Create and nurture the right partnerships and alliances with internal and external stakeholders in collaboration with Global Development, Business Development, Innovation Centers, etc.

  • Develop a deep understanding and empathy of the stakeholders; understand and align the problems and the value of use case with key stakeholders.

  • Mentor and coach team members toward development goals.

  • Responsible for driving vendor and partner relationships and coordinating and executing on contracts

  • Responsible for managing the budget and teams within budget for flex resourcing and vendor work, as well as managing demand and prioritizing work

  • Responsible for providing ongoing updates, metrics, of the overall DS Portfolio management and Analytics to JRD DS SLT

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in data-heavy sciences (physics, genetics, biology, data engineering) or related discipline is required. An advanced degree is preferred.

  • At least 5 years of industry experience in relevant roles such as information sciences, data sciences, clinical trial feasibility, and or similar with a proven track record of success for driving forward large initiatives by generating buy-in, managing complex projects, and continuously completing excellent quality analytics is required

  • At least 2 years of experience managing teams

  • Experience working with large datasets, understanding of data analysis workflows

  • Strong knowledge of CTMS and other systems, preferably worked in Janssen systems

  • Must be a clear and confident communicator who can break down complex data analyses to tell a compelling story

  • Knowledge of the changing ecosystem of external data such as real-world data, and publicly available data assets that would benefit a clinical operations data science team

  • An understanding of data science and analytics, especially traditional statistical predictive models, machine learning, decision science, operations research and clinical trial feasibility, data modeling, and/or data engineering

  • Knowledge of how work is performed for analytics and/or coding or in coding environment such as Python, R, C++, or Java

  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency who will do some project management to keep work on track such as provide timelines, attend, lead and schedule meetings, workshops and leading teams to understanding complex data and data stories

  • Expert PowerPoint skills, regularly construct compelling slides, and deliver focused, concise, clear and timely data and technology assessments to leadership teams

  • This position may require up to 15% domestic or international travel
