The Mars Agency is currently seeking a Director, Customer Development. This position is responsible for developing in-depth knowledge and strong relationships with the assigned retailer, working closely with internal and external teams, leading annual planning process, developing Shopper Marketing strategies for assigned brands/retailers and leading growth of assigned businesses. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the retailer, relationships within that retailers organization and proven strategic abilities.


  • Provide thought leadership, impacting/contributing to client's way of doing business with their key retailer on an ongoing basis

  • Act as a change agent/impact player from both an internal and external perspective contributing to both client and agency performance

  • Expand assigned business through identification of growth opportunities within your retailer or class of trade

  • Manage client relationship at the retail level to include, shopper marketers, sales teams and insights teams.

  • Demonstrate financial responsibility related to client scope of work, hours management and staffing needs.

  • Develop annual business plan, setting short- and long-term strategic course for growth of assigned business

  • Build strong relationships with both client and retailer while working closely with cross-functional teams including consumer marketing, trade development, operations, merchandising, and category managers, directors and buyers

  • Identify opportunities within your assigned retailer and share this learning on an ongoing basis with your Retail and Client Leadership teams

  • Understand how an agency works and embracing the tools and continually learning about our ways of working


  • Bachelor's degree in advertising, marketing, business, or related field - MBA preferred

  • Minimum of 8 years of marketing or advertising experience, preferably with a retailer or manufacturer on a retail team.

  • Dynamic personality able to effectively engage and influence a variety of audiences

  • A wealth of industry knowledge including current trends, consumer packaged goods and retailer information, and business philosophies

  • Motivational leadership, inspiring team to deliver top performance every day against assigned business

  • Strategic thinking in the development of Shopper Marketing programs and management of day to day business

  • Sound decision making skills

  • Passion about business and dissatisfaction with status quo always thinking of ways to improve/grow assigned client/business

  • Strong listening skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Desire to dig in and do what's needed to get the job done right.

  • Some travel is required

What role will you play as a member of the Walmart International team? The Customer Development Manager (CDM) is responsible for developing and maintaining a strong partnership with CP Walmart Teams around the Globe and Walmart (WM) International Team, promoting sustainable and mutually profitable business growth. The CDM works closely to Supply Chain, Retail Marketing, Customer Development and e-Commerce teams to ensure alignment and execution against the categories, brands, omnichannel and CP-WM's strategies and is also responsible for developing and deploying WM's core processes, tools as well as communicating relevant information and enabling best practices sharing to build innovative joint solutions. This position serves an essential function in enhancing demand/consumption for Colgate's products in a cost-effective way by centrally driving CP's Customer Development Strategy within WM. It also provides support to the teams in the countries where Walmart is present (USA, Argentina, Canada, Central America, Chile, China, India, Mexico, Puerto Rico and UK) with a combined net sales of over $1.7 Billion. Who are you? You are able to: * Provide strategic guidance to teams in negotiation as learning from countries emerge. ( e.g. Cost Analytics, Payment terms, Retail Ready Packaging) * Build eCommerce & Omnichannel expertise by understanding Walmart new strategies and practices to support the teams on the ground * Work closely with Retail Marketing, Customer Development and Supply Chain (at a local, regional and global level) to maximize the usage of available insights, and leverage learning into CP-WM's local commercial processes (Joint Business Planning and Supply Chain Management). * Help in-country teams understand customer and retail environment trends and sources of growth. Collaborate with Global and Divisions to ensure alignment with RE strategies. * Support local teams on how to present/use insights to create stories or build joint plans/strategies with WM. * Participate in industry forums / share groups / WM supplier teams to build CP's reputation, benchmark capabilities and collect valuable knowledge to drive thought leadership internally within CP. * Understand Walmart's business model and strategies to identify the common ground, and generate alignment with CP's model, defining mutual growth opportunities for CP and Walmart. * Set global KPI's and objectives. Monitor results and report internally and externally. * Participate in regular business reviews with local teams when appropriate * Support local teams virtually and live, aligned with markets' needs. * Assist in the development and organization of the Annual Global Team Meeting. * Support the global-to-local Joint Business Planning by reviewing/discussing the country plans with local teams. Assist in finalizing, presenting, discussing and agreeing the JBP with the customer. Monitor performance vs. goals and follow-up the JBP every quarter during Walmart touchpoints. * Assess global/local current and future gaps between business' needs and tools availability. Recommend action plan to close gaps. Engage the right stakeholders. * Collaborate with the development and follow-up of other key WM processes (e.g. Supply Chain Management, Sustainability and T2T meetings). * Support the customer relationship globally by establishing like-for-like contacts. Develop and support a collaborative partnership with WM from global to local. Drive CP's agenda influencing Walmart team in every opportunity. * Support regular business reviews with the different Walmart International functions, and share relevant global/regional/country specific trends, insights, best practices, or initiatives. * Collect feedback and insights from Walmart at a global level to drive actions within CP. * Lead specific global/regional joint initiatives with Walmart International, from global to local, related to new products, promotions, and sustainability initiatives.
