Job Description Summary

The primary role of the position is to originate and underwrite quality credit risk insurance opportunities with financial institutions and multinational corporations. This role will have responsibility for structured finance transactions including syndicated loans, acquisition finance, project finance and fixed income in the US. The position reports to the Global Head of Credit & Political Risk Insurance. Responsible for setting, monitoring, achieving, and measuring the established goals for multiple products across the entire country. Develops and implements strategic plans and objectives. Analyzes, develops, and monitors expense budget. Influences relationships with general agents, brokers, and other customers. Directs underwriters and other support staff. Approves accounts, which exceed underwriting staffs' authority either due to level of complexity, premium, and class of business or coverage provided. Accountable for underwriting, rates, forms and procedures across the country.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs the development and growth of the single risk lending products, specifically: syndicated loans, working capital, revolvers, acquisition finance, project finance and capital markets. This includes being the lead senior underwriter for the product with accountability for revenue targets. The Director will possess a strong ability to analyze complex transactions and risks including obligor credit and country risks and ensure revenue growth and loss minimization.

  • Develop and implement a customer strategy and strategic underwriting plan, developed together with the Global Head for Credit & Political Risk, for structured finance products in the US. Provides business forecasting related to trends and profitability nationally.

  • Monitors adherence to underwriting procedures, preparation of rates, forms, and policy wordings and endorsements and authorizes and approves the use of such rates, forms, and wordings.

  • Recommend obligor ratings and pricing for obligors within the credit and political risk business.

  • Supports the operational and systems build out working with IT and operational leads.

  • Conducts regular visits with bank customers and brokers to understand business needs and to identify new business opportunities.

  • Supervise and train underwriting staff by providing technical expertise on credit and country risk evaluation, pricing and policy wordings.

  • Where applicable, approves accounts within delegated authority and those which exceed underwriting staff's authority due to level of complexity, premium, and class of business or coverage provided.

  • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and all insurance regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure operational excellence through the timely issuance of non-binding indications and policy wordings as well as good coordination with the back office for policy servicing, including billing and accurate data input.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: VP, Credit and Political Risk

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in finance or accounting; Masters of Business Administration a plus

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of experience in structured financings, including syndicated loans, acquisition finance, project finance and capital markets.

  • At least 10 years in credit analysis

  • 5+ years in mentoring and coaching team members

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Demonstrated expert in the field and self-starter

  • Excellent relationships with US bank clients and US broker community

  • Knowledge of credit insurance products

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Prior credit authority

  • Formal credit training a plus

  • Good knowledge of IT solutions

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resource Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment and/ or remote working. The position requires the leader to visit prospective insureds and brokers within the US.
