Position Summary:

In this role you will be reporting directly to the VP of Corporate Strategy. The Director, Corporate Strategy is an experienced strategist and advisor with responsibility for partnering with various teams across the organization in the development, communication, and execution of our corporate strategic initiatives. This individual must be skilled in the creation of qualitative and quantitative analyses that support the development of our corporate strategy. They must also have a strong understanding of competitive dynamics, customer needs, market dynamics, and Kemper capabilities.

The Director, Corporate Strategy also supports the VP of Corporate Development with M&A execution and target Integration. Candidates should ideally have transaction experience and knowledge of the capital markets developed at an investment bank or in a corporate development role.

Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills, a strategically oriented thought process, exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal), and must have an executive presence.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Deliver data-driven insights to support actionable strategic direction, corporate prioritization, corporate development, and strategy communication (Executive management, Board, investors, company)

  • Develop strategic insights into our business and competitive positioning utilizing market and industry analysis and research

  • Lead efforts to assess Kemper's operating performance and business strategy relative to our competitors and our corporate objectives

  • Support financial, strategic, and commercial evaluations of corporate development opportunities, including acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures

  • Analyze industry trends, customer needs, competitive threats, expansion opportunities and internal performance

  • Evaluate the impact of strategic decisions on our stakeholders (i.e., customers, employees, shareholders, etc.)

  • Support projects for Kemper Senior Management and the Board of Directors

Position Qualifications:

  • MBA from top tier program preferred, but not required

  • 6-10 years of total experience

  • 4+ years of experience delivering strategy consulting or investment banking

  • 2+ years of post-MBA experience at a leading strategy consulting firm, investment bank, or similar corporate roles

  • Deep knowledge of Insurance or Financial Services experience preferred, but not required
