Position Overview

The Director, Construction (i) provides support to the Development and Asset Management departments in the expansion, renovation and construction of existing and new mall projects, (ii) provides technical expertise to help coordinate the design process and manage the construction activities of all on-site activities, (iii) acts as a resource by providing technical advice and direction as required by mall operations and tenant coordination, (iv) is responsible for the performance of construction managers for budget and quality control and for maintaining schedule, and (v) participates in training and career development of assigned staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the team leader for the group and a resource to asset management

  • Monitors and balances regional Construction Managers workloads and requirements

  • Reviews and approves commitment requests, payment applications and budgets

  • Conducts monthly regional Construction Management Activity Report (CMAR) meetings and ensures reports and update and distributed as required

  • Prepares monthly Construction Management workload schedules

  • Prepares, reviews and approves construction estimates and project schedules

  • Promotes a best practices policy within the design and construction management group

  • Ensures regional construction management responsibilities are met

  • Encourages, promotes, develops and supports construction management talent and instill formal project management skills in all group members

  • Provides technical expertise to mall operations and tenant coordination; meets with leasing staff as needed to present and review drafted construction plans

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, Construction Management or related design field

  • 10 years of progressive experience in the industry with at least 5 of those years in retail construction project

  • Ability to understand construction documents and to analyze design changes required due to field conditions or scope revisions

  • Strong working knowledge of construction methods and materials, scheduling and budgeting construction projects

  • Effective communication skills and a demonstrated understanding of budget limitations, cost control and construction management

  • Good estimating abilities

  • 5 years supervisory experience

Issue monthly report to Sr. VP, CFO, all RVP's CEO's, in addition to selected corporate entities. Direct reportsare Sr. RPMs and RPMs. Provide mentoring and direct guidance to newer and less experienced staff. Develop programs tailored to each PM's professional development. Continually seeking methods to improve on past performances through innovation and challenging assumptions. Knowledge of the different departments in hospital BH or Acute and the unique requirements for each. Involved in HR functions such as recruitment, and promotions. Requirements BachelOR's degree required 3-5 yearsof hospital experience required. Must have experience building hospital from the ground up. Strong leadership skills; specific construction implementation experience, some development experience, code and permit knowledge, negotiating skills, strong interpersonal skills to lead vendors, solid business decision making skills.
