Position Summary...
What you'll do...
This construction director position will be Bentonville based.
The Director, Construction will have responsibility for a team of project managers and engage in process and program management. They will take a lead role in partnering with key stakeholders in the development of projects, programs, and process. They will support the construction directors managing execution of projects in the field. They will build relationships with cross-functional teams and represent the construction team in cross-functional exercises. They will draw connections between future initiatives, current processes, and develop strategies to mitigate gaps. They will leverage their team to develop and deploy training and provide support for construction project execution. They will work internally with the construction innovation team and bridge the office and field work, delivering results and improvements across the team and program.
Ensures construction budgets are met by advising and reviewing pre-construction budgets; reviewing and tracking monthly and quarterly budget
reports; working with contractors and estimating to resolve claims; reviewing and approving contractor payments, change orders, and invoices; and
managing project scope and contingency.
Monitors and enforces compliance with laws and regulations for construction projects by establishing, communicating, and monitoring acceptable
standards of performance for contractors and suspending noncompliant work; collaborating with cross-functional teams (for example, engineers, Compliance) to provide feedback and identify and implement design changes to comply with compliance regulations; resolving noncompliance; maintaining certifications; enforcing standards with regulations and company programs (for example, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) refrigerant handling compliance, Site Access Controls); and providing guidance to team members in the application of new or changing initiatives.
Manages a diverse portfolio of onsite construction projects by collaborating with facility management to establish scope and schedule of project to
minimize impact to operations; maintaining, communicating, and adjusting timelines and working with contractors to ensure project milestones are
met; verifying material procurement and deliveries are synchronized with project schedules; visiting sites and monitoring contractor work and
schedules to ensure construction quality is consistent with design specifications and timelines; collaborating with cross-functional teams (for example,
engineers, architects, design managers) to provide feedback and identify and implement design changes; and monitoring and ensuring resolution of
outstanding construction issues and work to be corrected or completed (for example, observations, warranty issues).
Manages a variety of construction projects by creating and evaluating project schedules; coordinating efforts between internal and external business
units; resolving conflicts (for example, scheduling issues, onsite construction issues); ensuring projects are on-track and within construction guidelines
(for example, reviewing out-to-bid readiness, permitting complete); overseeing document completion (for example, close-out, punch lists, prototype
updates, construction change directives, materials testing, special instructions); serving as a company representative with municipalities and public
officials (for example, fire marshal, construction inspectors) to ensure the delivery of quality and compliance in all projects; and ensuring the quality
and functionality of the project's construction following turnover to operations throughout the warranty period.
Provides leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams (for example, Construction, Realty) on construction projects and new initiatives by
providing feedback regarding new prototypes and design initiatives (for example, compliance initiatives, new formats); providing leadership and
guidance to team members regarding changing or non-prototypical application of construction guidelines; representing Construction on focus teams
and special assignments (for example, reinventions, innovations, test initiatives); developing relationships and onboarding new general contractors;
substituting for the Director when he/she is unavailable to attend or lead meetings; and staying up-to-date on industry best practices and providing
feedback and suggestions for improvement; serving as a consultant and advisor on complex projects and decisions to assist mid-level managers if
not directly assigned; representing Construction on focus teams and special assignments (for example, reinventions, innovations, test initiatives); and
providing onboarding, training, guidance, and direction to entry level managers assigned by the Director.
Operates independently as a Senior Construction Manager II by focusing on continued education to increase technical skills and individual development; knowing and using the available resources to help manage a project; acting independently when the complexity of a project is increased; acting independently when the financial impact to a project is increased; not needing to ask for assistance in establishing and communicating project risk levels and anticipating risk factors; training and directing general and/or refrigeration contractors for improved delivery of construction projects; and effectively modeling Walmart culture and building internal and external relationships through effective communication and dispute resolution.
Provides leadership and guidance to Construction Managers by sponsoring Construction Managers during their on-boarding; modeling the Walmart
culture in own behavior; helping Construction Managers assimilate with Walmart culture and business processes; providing guidance to Construction
Managers on modeling Walmart culture and on building internal and external relationships through effective communication and dispute resolution
techniques; acting as a readily available point of contact for Construction Managers; providing advice and guidance on projects; providing information
on available resources that can be used to help manage a project; providing guidance when the complexity of a project is increased; providing
guidance when the financial impact to a project is increased; and providing assistance in establishing and communicating project risk levels and
anticipating risk factors.
Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business
plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning.
Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training; mentoring; assigning duties; building a team-based work
environment; establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations; providing recognition and rewards; coaching
for success and improvement; and ensuring diversity awareness.
Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by training and providing direction to
others in their use and application; ensuring compliance with them; and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy.
Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field and 3 years' experience in construction management,
construction administration, engineering, architecture, or related field OR a Bachelor's degree in Construction Technology and 4 years' experience
in construction management, construction administration, engineering, architecture, or related field OR 5 years' comprehensive real
estate/construction experience.
