Job Description:

General Statement:

The Assistant Director of Early Childhood Development and Intervention is responsible for managing district pre-K programs, collaborating with principals to ensure that pre-K programs are implemented with fidelity and supporting the private and public pre-K Programs in Stamford.

The Assistant Director of Early Childhood Development and Intervention reports to the Director of Early Childhood Development & Intervention.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Director in planning the District Pre K Program

  • Supports the Director in implementing the District Pre-K Program

  • Supports special education Early Childhood student programming as needed

  • Conducts community outreach and workshops on the Kindergarten Transition for prospective families, preschool staff and community stakeholders

  • Provides IEP Compliance Support for PPT meetings

  • Assists in weekly IEP meetings regarding IEP development, IEP implementation and follow through with weekly special education issues

  • Assists the Director in the administration and supervision of preschool and the instructional program

  • Assists the Director in aspects of the screening and selection of all school personnel as delegated by the Director

  • Assists the Director in aspects of the supervision and evaluation of all school personnel as delegated by the Director

  • Assists in preparation and administration of the budget

  • Serves in the place of the Director whenever the Director must be absent

  • Performs additional administrative duties as delegated by the Director

  • Knowledge of present practice and current trends in early childhood education and special education.

  • Ability to collaborate as part of an integrated team and develops a collegial environment within the school to support all students.

  • Knowledge of learning theory, program implementation, best practices in early childhood education and special education.

  • Use of data-driven decision making to determine effectiveness of programs and initiatives.

  • Excellent conceptual, analytical, problem solving, organization, and leadership skills.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures related to public schools, specifically related to early childhood and special education.

  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information, develop and monitor a plan and produce data-focused reports.

Qualifications:

  • CT CSDE Intermediate Administration or Supervision certification (092) required.

  • CT CSDE certification in Early Childhood, Special Education, or Related Services preferred.

  • 008 Pre-K and Kindergarten

  • 112 Integrated Early Childhood/Special Ed., Birth-Kindergarten

  • 065 Comprehensive Special Education, PK-12

  • 165 Comprehensive Special Education, K-12

  • 265 Comprehensive Special Education, 1-12

  • 061 Speech and Language Pathologist

  • 070 School Psychologist

  • 071 School Social Worker

  • Demonstrated up-to-date familiarity with developments and trends in school administration, staff supervision and curriculum development and early childhood.

  • Extensive successful teaching experience, preferably in an elementary school and or Early Childhood Center.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of elementary school administration as well as the current practices and techniques involving elementary education, including knowledge of data information systems.

  • Demonstrated up-to-date familiarity with developments and trends in special education, student support services, and inclusive best practices.

  • Demonstrated understanding of child psychology and the ability to apply effectively its teachings with elementary/preschool school pupils.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work well with other people.

  • Demonstrated leadership in an educational setting.

  • Superior communication skills (oral and written).

  • High standards of ethics, honesty and integrity.
