Director of Student Services
The New Milford Public Schools is currently seeking a highly-qualified educator for the position of Director of Student Services. The successful candidate should possess a proven record of genuinely collaborative and student-centered leadership; outstanding preparation in and expertise regarding current best practices in special education and related services; and a determined and innovative mindset in the service of ongoing organizational improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Holds advanced degree(s) in education and possesses substantial experience in special education and related services;
- Holds valid Connecticut certification in special education or a related service and intermediate administration and supervision;
- Minimum of five years of experience in special education or pupil personnel services, including leadership roles in special education or pupil personnel services; Leadership experience at the building level (principal, assistant principal) would serve as a valuable asset for this position;
- Experience and expertise in developing, implementing, and managing special education and related services programming;
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in the analysis of student performance data and the development of actionable next steps in response to student performance information;
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, decision-making, and communication skills, including skills in our district ideals: Focus, Heart, Collaboration, and Creativity;
- Knowledge of and ability to implement research-validated best practices in student support, service delivery, and organizational development
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Achievement:
- Develop, oversee, and evaluate all special education and pupil personnel programming, including PreK-22 in-district programs and out-of-district placements to ensure compliance with district, state, and federal requirements;
- Oversee the provision of services in special education, school counseling, school psychology, social work, and student health;
- Demonstrate a deep expertise in and commitment to multi-tiered systems of support and a continuum of research-validated academic and social/emotional interventions;
- Utilize student performance information to monitor trends, determine program effectiveness, and develop innovative strategies for programmatic and instructional improvement;
- Collaborate with the Department of Instruction to oversee the development and revision of written curriculum in support of student growth and diverse needs;
- Monitor the effectiveness of Individualized Education Plans, 504 Plans, and other support plans;
Family and Community Engagement:
- Demonstrated experience in collaborating with families to address student needs and respond to questions and concerns;
- Develop partnerships with outside agencies and community organizations to support student growth and success;
- Develop and provide appropriate resources to families regarding the range of district services and special education laws and regulations
Budget Development and Fiscal Management:
- Develop and manage budgets for special education programming and pupil personnel services;
- Demonstrated experience with grant writing and strategic grant fund allocation to support special education and related services programming;
District and School Environment:
- Develops cooperative working relationships with district office and building administrators and supervisors;
- Ensures compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations related to special education and pupil services;
- Oversees district nursing services
- Collaborates effectively with the Superintendent and Cabinet;
