The Global Merchant and Network Services (GM&NS) Pricing team is responsible for the single largest source of American Express' revenue: Merchant discount revenue. The team works closely with multiple business partners to determine the ideal pricing structure to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction. Ultimately, we drive merchant revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, more flexible pricing architecture and innovative pricing solutions.

The Payments landscape is evolving fast, and the need to monitor, understand and react to our competitive environment is greater than ever. With that, the Director of Competitive Intelligence will be responsible for building and maintaining a global, best in class view of competitive network and acquirer pricing through research, analysis and modeling; and driving the strategic work on evolving our core pricing principles to align price with value delivered to our merchants. The successful candidate will report to the Vice President of Global Pricing Infrastructure & Insights and will have considerable exposure to senior leaders in GMS and across the Blue Box.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead all Competitive Intelligence (CI) activity/strategic projects.

  • Develop and Maintain Competitive Intelligence Models to support optimal decision making.

  • Stay abreast of Regulatory changes globally and assess implications together with industry dynamics through internal and external resources in compliance with company policies.

  • Provide consultative support to Regional Pricing teams on all CI requests.

  • Create compelling, merchant facing materials for all regions, which articulate and quantify the American Express value proposition.

  • Lead a team of three Managers.

  • 5 years' experience in Management Consulting/ Corporate Strategy.

  • Experience in and/or significant exposure to the payments industry with a solid understanding of business model drivers.

  • Strong aptitude for analytics; demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw value-added insights from large amounts of data.

  • Strategic thought leader with the ability to work through unstructured problems and develop clear action plans.

  • Strong relationship management and collaboration skills ability to manage external vendors and internal stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral -- with experience leading discussions with Senior Leaders where decisions need to be made based on the facts presented.

  • People leadership experience this position leads a team of three.

  • Results driven with the ability to work under pressure, navigate through ambiguity, draw linkages and balance multiple priorities.

  • MBA or relevant graduate degree from top tier institution.

The Portfolio and Decision Analysis group (PDA), part of the Chief Business Office (CBO) organization, is uniquely positioned within Pfizer to harness the power of data to drive robust analytical insights that inform some of Pfizer's most critical business questions, to facilitate tough investment and trade-off decisions for the Research & Development (R&D) portfolio, and to serve as an "early warning system" for potential issues that could impact decision-making. Our dynamic, exciting team of subject-matter experts comes from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including decision analytics, consulting, finance, and investment banking. As a team, we collaborate to turn data into meaningful insights that will have a direct impact on patients' lives and the future of Pfizer as a data-driven organization. The Competitive Intelligence (CI) Lead is a role on the PDA team that provides Pfizer leadership with industry-leading competitive insights and ensures delivery of ongoing competitive assessment for our early- and late-stage pipeline assets across Pfizer's Innovative Medicines Business (IMB). ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES Team Management (60% - 70%) * Partner with Category Triads (leaders of commercial, development, and scientific organizations) and their teams to deliver competitive insights for early- and late-stage pipeline to help position programs to have greatest impact for patients * Lead a team of talented CI professionals responsible for delivering ongoing market surveillance and competitive intelligence for assets across Pfizer's IMB Categories – Oncology, Inflammation and Immunology (I&I), Rare Diseases (RD), Vaccines, Internal Medicine (IM), and Hospital * Ensure CI findings are translated into clear and potentially actionable insights that inform strategy and decision-making for the IMB Categories and the Pfizer enterprise * Provide leadership to Pfizer enterprise initiatives such as the Marketplace Intelligence newsletter, Primary CI program, and Competitive Assessment Dashboard, all of which are led by the CI team * Lead the development of content for competitive assessment updates to Pfizer's Board of Directors (BoD) on a quarterly basis * Partner with Business Development (BD) teams to evaluate competitive landscape for potential targets for licensing and M&A activity * Proactively partner with other members of PDA and CBO to integrate competitive insights across key services to categories (e.g., forecasting, market research) and support key milestone decisions * Be a thought leader to evolve the way Pfizer engages with CI by exploring new techniques, tools, or processes that can help advance CI capabilities * Drive innovation in CI techniques to identify, visualize, and disseminate potentially significant market trends that can impact priority therapeutic categories. * Actively seek and leverage best practices from non-healthcare sectors to evolve CI practices Primary CI Lead (30% - 40%) * Lead the global corporate Primary CI Program * Serve as the point person for CP121 * Deliver actionable, cost-effective intelligence with successful project ROI * Provide project management and guidance for multiple long- and short-term asset-focused projects and strategic simulations * Liaise between internal project teams and consulting firms * Manage the selection of CI providers, assist in drafting / review of key intelligence topics / questions (KITs / KIQs), maintaining sharp scope and legal compliance * Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Global Security, and Procurement * Maintain compliance with all internal and external legal guidelines and compliance certifications * Maintain current relationships with external CI providers and establish new ones, as appropriate * Evaluate potential external primary CI firms * Partner with Global Information Security for Counter-intelligence investigations and education * Identify, evaluate, and support implementation of continuous improvement and best practices to maintain best-in-class CI program in the pharmaceutical industry QUALIFICATIONS BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Professional experience and educational requirements * 10+ years' experience in management consulting, investment banking, finance, strategic planning, R&D, or decision analysis;
