Director, Compensation ~ Retail and Direct Bank (RDB)

Here at Capital One we bring an analytically rigorous, data-driven approach to compensation. We are looking for an innovative Compensation Director to lead the compensation function for Capital One's Retail and Direct Bank (RDB).

We are looking for proven leadership candidates who are detailed, resulted-oriented and flexible with the ability to manage multiple initiatives in a demanding, fast-paced, Agile environment.

The role will partner with senior leaders and play an active role in formulating the on-going compensation strategy for the Retail and Direct Bank division. The successful candidate will be intellectually curious, have strong communication skills, and an ability to build strong partnerships across stakeholders, partners, and clients. This Director is expected to represent the Retail and Direct Bank point of view in firm wide initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of Compensation professionals to ensure team has a thorough understanding of the business strategy as it relates to the compensation strategy

  • Strategic focus and planning for enhancements/ changes that align with company growth with a focus on cost effectiveness with the overall compensation strategies.

  • Review of all programs for the development of modification strategies and recommendations to ensure achievement of overall compensation and benefit goals.

  • Design, deliver, and manage compensation programs across all verticals within Retail and Direct Bank.

  • Serve as primary compensation point of contact to executives and internal partners within client groups

  • Manage all aspects of Line-of-Business (LOB) for designated client groups, with a strong emphasis on plan design, implementation, and administration. Responsibilities also include management and analysis of external market data and ensuring incentive plans meet strict internal and external governance/compliance standards

  • Partner with internal partners (e.g., HR Consultants, Finance, Accounting, Legal, Enterprise Risk) and client group on firm wide programs and/or processes (e.g., regulated staff classification, pay program changes), including conducting in-depth analyses and modeling in support of total compensation scenarios

  • Lead Compensation team through mid-year and year-end compensation cycles, ensuring smooth execution and managing within internal and external controls

  • Lead strategic compensation projects, key initiatives or processes horizontally across the Retail and Direct Bank (RDB) Compensation team, as assigned

  • Exhibit thought leadership across Retail and Direct Bank (RDB), the RDB Compensation team, as well as the Enterprise.

  • Apply Agile team practices and principles to deliver results and contribute to team effectiveness

  • Effectively guide activities and utilization of analyst resources

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in compensation or human resources

  • At least 7 years of experience in client facing or consulting roles

  • At least 5 years in a people leadership position


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or Human Resources

  • At least 7 years of effectively communicating compensation strategies at all levels including the C-Suite,

  • At least 10 years of experience in Compensation, Finance, or Human Resources consulting

  • At least 7 years of experience working in the Financial Services industry (Commercial or Retail Banking experience a plus)

  • At least 10 years of experience in client facing or consulting roles

  • Advanced excel skills (e.g., VBA, macros, array functions)

  • Experience innovating processes or programs

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint

  • Experience with bench-marking tools (MarketPay) or reporting tools (Tableau, Business Objects)

Compliance Advisor Manager- Retail & Direct Bank The Compliance Advisor Manager will join a team of compliance advisors who support the functions and operations for the Retail and Direct Bank division including branches, cafes, call centers, deposit operations, marketing, and product development. Compliance Advisor Managers help the bank comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and supervisory guidance. A successful Compliance Advisor Manager is a highly motivated, forward thinking, self-starter who can work autonomously, is technologically adept, and a problem solver. The Compliance Advisor Manager is responsible for delivering quality results, providing sound compliance advice to business lines as a subject matter expert, and executing against the responsibilities outlined below. Specific Responsibilities: * Analyze new business initiatives for potential compliance risk, identify risk mitigation activities, and ensure business remains within approved compliance risk appetite; * Exercise sound judgment to effectively assess and balance risk when providing compliance advice to the business; * Maintain expert knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and supervisory guidance, keeping up with and advising the business on current and emerging developments; * Regularly interact with business partners and risk management colleagues, both 1:1 and in group settings, to influence processes, procedures, and controls; * Provide guidance on controls over regulatory requirements and business line monitoring of those controls; * Assess the impact and potential compliance risk exposure of operational breakdowns or findings, including customer complaints, and advise business during remediation; and * Identify trends in internal and external compliance data and proactively advise on identified risks. The ideal candidate will possess: * A strategic, action-oriented style that can deliver solutions, even in ambiguous situations; * Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt in a fast-paced and fluid environment; * Highly developed interpersonal and communications skills coupled with the ability to influence others to reach agreement and catalyze change; * The ability to work as a team player and build strong relationships with associates across functions, departments, and levels; * Ability to balance operating independently with appropriate escalation and interaction with leadership; and * The highest ethical standards and unwavering integrity.
