In the U.S., Agios markets a first-in-class pyruvate kinase (PK) activator for the treatment of hemolytic anemia in adults with PK deficiency. Building on the company's leadership in the field of cellular metabolism, Agios is advancing a robust clinical pipeline of investigational medicines with active and planned programs in alpha- and beta-thalassemia, sickle cell disease, pediatric PK deficiency and MDS-associated anemia. Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Director, Strategy & Execution to join our growing Commercial team. We want someone who cares about this important work, and who's driven to connect to our mission of helping these patient communities. The Director, Strategy & Execution will be a trusted strategic partner to the Chief Commercial Officer and Commercial Leadership team (CLT), building operational excellence through process and governance, driving innovation, agility and alignment across the Commercial org and cross-functional partners by proactively highlighting business critical risks/opportunities, and planning and directing the most critical organizational, financial, and operational activities for the organization.

This role will establish and maintain a portfolio of key initiatives in close collaboration with the CLT and cross-functional leaders. This individual will lead collaboratively through influence and direct, as appropriate, cross-functional project teams and be a trusted advisor/leader. What you will do:

Develop and manage the business processes & governance for the Commercial team, included but not limited to budgeting, resourcing, and communications. Identify opportunities to establish and continuously improve business practices and processes to maximize resources and achieve operational excellence across the organization. Business strategic planning and monitoring: drive effective business planning and alignment within the cross functional teams with deliverables and organizational strategies, and monitor and report against performance milestones relevant for the commercial organization.

Collaborate with the commercial leadership team to prepare and manage internal and external executive communications for audiences such as the Leadership Team, Board of Directors, Investor Relations, Earnings calls, etc. Drive the planning of Leadership meetings and facilitate decision-making and execution, including monitoring objective progress and escalation of business-relevant risks/concerns. Assist in developing the annual priorities and goals in alignment with corporate and Global Commercial goals.

Ensures leadership team and business review agendas are consistent with priorities and focused on strategic needs. Partner with finance to support monitoring of key business metrics. Create cohesion, engagement, and alignment within the team and across cross-functional partners.

Stay closely connected with team members, alerting the Leadership team to opportunities and risks. Drive day-to-day activities related to the team's activities and lead organization and communication of team activities (e.g., All Commercial Calls). What you bring: Bachelor's degree Minimum 10 years' experience, working in a fast-paced global corporate environment.

Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects encompassing several geographies and functions in matrixed environments Excellent communication skills and strong ability to synthesize complex business issues to communicate succinctly and formulate recommendations and actions plans Strong business acumen developed though several years of commercial experience (consulting, sales, marketing, business development, finance/business controlling, etc.); ability to drive and communicate financial performance Demonstrated ability to manage internal and external stakeholders and develop trusting relationships with all relevant functions and levels of leadership across an organization Highly collaborative attitude who can build strong professional relationships and exhibits high EQ, high integrity and work ethics Experience with developing/leading an organizational governance process, leverage data-driven decision making. This role requires some work onsite at our Cambridge Headquarters as needed. Hybrid schedules vary but are generally less than 3 days per week onsite. Regular conversations with manager are encouraged to ensure alignment on in-person presence/expectations.
