Primary Role / Job Purpose

The incumbent directly supports the Commercial Function and is a key member of the Business Insights & Strategic Analytics (BISA) department; charged with developing advanced statistical models and algorithms that provide data-driven insights to support business results. Key responsibilities include creating product, customer, and operational value from data and providing measurable performance and quality insights by modeling complex problems, discovering insights, and identifying opportunities using statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques. The incumbent leverages prospective analytics and uses data mining, data analysis, automation, and machine learning methods to measure performance and quality of insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with BISA leadership, Commercial IT, Commercial Excellence, Sales Force Effectiveness, and Marketing to drive analytics and solutions that deliver insights and knowledge to enable data-driven decision making.

  • Drive business impact through data science and advanced analytics that yield regular insights and trends. Use exploratory data analysis to build expertise in strengths and limitations of complex data sets to assist in identifying right analytical approach based on available data.

  • Design and manage complex analytical projects, including developing and implementing approaches that break down complex business problems into multiple independent & sequential phases of analysis.

  • Derive insights from data and present results to internal clients and senior management and cull data from disparate systems. Integrate and prepare large and varied datasets, design appropriate data science models and algorithms, and professionally communicate results.

  • Collaborate with business partners to develop novel ways to meet objectives utilizing cutting edge techniques and tools (e.g., Dynamic targeting, Next Best Action, etc.).

  • Effectively communicate analytics approach and forge alignment to meeting and addressing objectives for business partners. Exemplify value of Data Science orientation to broader enterprise community; identifying and developing long-term processes, frameworks, tools, methods, and standards that benefit the organization. Advocate and educate on value of data-driven decision making, focusing on "how and why" of solving problems.

  • Engineer features by drawing on business acumen to find new ways to combine disparate internal and external data sources.

  • Stay connected with external sources of expertise and share ideas obtained through conferences and community engagements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a highly technical/quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or Mathematics. Master's Degree and relevant graduate level coursework desirable.

  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in conceiving data mining algorithms, including applying machine learning techniques such as regression, decision trees, probability networks, association rules, clustering, deep learning, neural networks, Bayesian models, etc.

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in generating advanced insights and predictive capability from statistical models, including but not limited to, multivariate linear regression, cluster algorithms, decision trees, logistic regression, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), time series, survival analysis, machine learning (supervised and unsupervised), Bayesian Methods, Neural Networks, etc.

  • Background in commercial business analytics/insights and other relevant experience in pharmaceutical/ life sciences industry strongly preferred.

  • Ability to extract data from various database tables using tools such as SQL to develop features used in analysis including capability to perform feature engineering as necessary.

  • Strong project management skills required.

  • Sound ability to clearly communicate issues and recommendations essential.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in collaborating cross-functionally to design and build solutions.

  • Adaptability/comfort with small company lean-resourced mindset along with strong willingness to work with constantly changing priorities.

  • A regular presence in Yardley, PA headquarters is expected.
