JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, develops and oversees systemic college and career readiness (CCR) initiatives, aligning with Maryland's Blueprint requirements and the AACPS Strategic Plan. Responsible for direct oversight of AACPS Magnet Programs at the secondary level including Apex Arts, International Baccalaureate (IB), Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM), and the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in overseeing the preparation and management of program budgets, specifically, Apex Arts, STEM, IB, and JROTC. Researches grants, supports system revenues, analyzes data, and provides annual reports.

  • Provides management and oversight of AACPS Magnet Programs and makes recommendations for continued improvement, evolution, and innovation.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams as it pertains to the implementation of curricular and co-curricular programming in AACPS Magnet Programs. Serves on system committees to support the AACPS Strategic Plan.

  • Evaluates the performance of office coordinators/managers, program specialists, technicians, and administrative staff.

  • Advises district leaders, principals, teachers, service providers, and other staff on school regulations/policies, curriculum content, instructional frameworks, and innovative practices related to teaching & learning in Magnet Programs.

  • Collaborates with principals as to the efficient utilization of staffing, materials of instruction, and equipment associated with Magnet Programs, including the development of instructional guides/resources/professional development tools, and curriculum design/documents.

  • Communicates with and engages community stakeholders as partners in learning and informing the general public of opportunities to participate in Magnet Programs. Supports collaboration and partnership efforts with institutes of Higher Education (IHE) including AACC.

  • Supports a cycle of continuous improvement through program evaluation, accreditation, and benchmarking through professional organizations.

  • Actively attends and presents at regional and national conferences to promote the innovative practices and programs in AACPS.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Master's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.

  • Doctoral Degree in education or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university preferred;

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Experience

  • Ten (10) years progressively responsible professional experience as a teacher in a school district required; and

  • Seven (7) years school-based or district-level leadership experience, preferably as a principal at the middle/high school level required;

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations (students, parents, staff, and the public).

  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite

  • Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses and Certifications

Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.

  • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Administrator I Certificate issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.

  • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required.

  • Daily access to reliable transportation.
