About the Role

In FTI Consulting's Corporate Finance & Restructuring organization, we focus on our clients' strategic, operational, financial and capital needs by addressing the full spectrum of financial and transactional challenges faced by corporations, boards, private equity sponsors, creditor constituencies and other stakeholders.

Within the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment, the Office of the CFO practice offers solutions to manage our client's CFO inbox for a company and help maximize its performance to position them for success to meet today's increasing challenges. This role will be a critical team member to help lead and execute client engagements. This role also carries business development responsibilities in addition to client work

What You'll Do

The Director will collaborate with various internal teams and help support and execute client engagements by:

  • Performing high quality client work and developing client relationships for CFO advisory service assignments, including taking a proactive approach and anticipating client needs.

  • Developing and scaling knowledge management; including tools, methodologies, reports, models, work plans, checklists and processes.

  • Assisting with practice development and marketing, including developing materials, surveys, events and case studies.

  • Leading engagement work streams and projects with limited oversight.

  • Providing independent perspective with respect to financial organizations, processes, technology and people.

  • Participating in the writing of thought leadership pieces relevant to CFOs and the OCFO practice.

  • Taking a leadership role in helping coach, train, and mentor Jr. Staff.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with proven, hands-on project delivery experience to work with our Fortune 500 clients to help them plan, design, and execute key financial technologies to streamline their financial operations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Masters' degree in a Business related major or Economics.

  • 6+ years of experience in financial consulting and advisory, in a corporate rotational program focused on developing financial leaders, or in execution or leadership roles in an industry finance, accounting or FP&A function.

  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel with a strong ability to develop and scale financial models.

  • Experience as an external (or internal consultant) with a CFO advisory or consulting background.

  • Ability to quickly synthesize and advise on complex financial and operational concepts and issues; and translate those to clear and actionable recommendations and insights.

  • Experience with business intelligence tools and/or data analytics is preferred.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) certifications, or an MBA, is preferred.

  • Ability to travel up to 80%

This Co-op experience provides participants with a meaningful, relevant work experience as part of their academic studies. MFS co-op positions are a 6-month commitment (January 5th, 2021 - June 25th, 2021), working Monday - Friday and work between 35-40 hours. Our program is designed for undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in a co-op program through their college or university and can meet our requirements. All students must be authorized to work in the United States. Corporate Finance Our finance team works side by side with each business group to capture every purchase and expenditure, from multi-million dollar technology purchases to real estate leases. This team records sales results and analyzes profitability. By working closely with our Management Committee, this associates support the strategic direction of the company through financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting. Some principle responsibilities of co-ops in these groups include: * Preparing vouchers for imaging, researching outstanding vendor invoices, and assisting with vendor and employee inquiries * Working with Corporate Purchasing as appropriate * Participating in preliminary discussions of audit observations with business unit personnel to verify facts, as necessary. * Performing periodic monitoring procedures to confirm completion of Internal Audit related tasks including but not limited to the management's completion of management action plans. Corporate Tax and Treasury It is the Corporate Tax and Treasury teams' responsibility to focus on big-picture financial issues. Our thorough Corporate Tax team designs, determines, and manages the company's international and U.S. income tax structure and interpretive and reporting positions. Some principle responsibilities of co-ops in these groups include: * Assists in preparation of foreign financial information reports. * Assists in preparation of Federal and state income, franchise and excise tax returns and annual reports. Assists in preparation of quarterly state estimates. * Updates compliance calendar to help ensure that tax filings are made timely. * Assists in analyzing appropriate general ledger accounts to provide roll forward of tax accounts and to identify items of income/expense that would require a tax treatment different than book (i.e., depreciation of fixed assets). Fund Treasury Fund Treasury is a specialized group with high professional standards that is comprised of accounting, tax and financial professionals who love being immersed in mutual funds. This knowledgeable team prepares financial information about MFS products for the public, including but not limited to quarterly, semiannual and annual fund financial statements. Some principle responsibilities of co-ops in these groups include: * Preparing the portfolio of investments section of the financial statements for annual, semi-annual, and quarterly shareholder reports. * Preparing financial statements using State Street Bank reports and Fundsuite. * Gaining exposure to different types of mutual funds; equity, fixed-income, muni, international, fund-of-funds, offshore, and more. * Generating standard reports and assists with the analysis of various Treasury functions * Assisting in the research and analysis of unidentified or missing bank transactions * Participating in various projects to improve efficiency of the department. Qualifications * Working toward a Bachelor's degree, preferably with a concentration in finance, accounting or other related financial discipline. * Strong written and oral communication skills, including listening skills. * Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with strong attention to detail and organization. * Ability to organize, prioritize, manage and complete multiple concurrent tasks within established time constraints. * Works well under pressure, meeting objectives and deadlines consistently. * Ability to work effectively with others to achieve the team's goals.
