This position is open to UNC tenured faculty as a 12 month administrative exempt contract. The successful applicant will retain tenure status and may teach one course per year in load.

Position Summary

The Director of CETL is responsible for establishing a strategic vision and plan for supporting faculty development in the areas of teaching, equity-minded practice, curriculum development, instructional models, and student learning assessment. The Director formulates and administers policies, develops and administers the center's strategic plan and budget, oversees programs and services, and manages human, financial, and physical resources, all while functioning with a high degree of autonomy. The CETL Director upholds the inclusive-centric mission and vision of the center and fosters a culture in which effective teaching is valued and rewarded.

Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Academic Effectiveness, the CETL Director serves as a member of the Academic Effectiveness leadership team. The Director collaborates with Academic Effectiveness leadership, other key administrative and academic leaders, faculty and staff, and external partners to define, develop, communicate, and implement programs and strategies focused on supporting and improving instruction.

The position chairs the CETL Advisory Board and represents CETL and Academic Effectiveness on other standing and ad hoc university committees. This is an administrative exempt position that includes faculty status. Limited to tenured associate or full professor rank.

Job Duties

  • The Director oversees CETL strategic planning, including goal setting and resource allocation, using data and research-based practice to prioritize CETL offerings and ensuring alignment with the university's mission and strategic priorities (30%).

  • The Director is responsible for CETL operations and programming, including the development and implementation of services and programs that promote effective teaching and are responsive to a range of faculty development interests and needs. The Director maintains, evaluates, and improves CETL programs including New Faculty Orientation, annual symposia, and faculty learning communities while also developing new services and programs to meet changing needs (45%).

  • The Director is responsible for budget development and management, recruitment, supervision, training, and evaluation of CETL personnel, including faculty serving as CETL program facilitators, and seeking external funding, where appropriate, that aligns with the CETL mission (20%).

  • The Director may teach one course per year in load (5%).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in discipline (PhD, EdD, etc.)

  • Rank of tenured associate or full professor

  • 2 years' experience designing and implementing faculty development programs and services

  • 1 year experience with program administration, including supervision of other employees, budget, planning, and evaluation

  • Record of scholarship pertaining to teaching and learning

  • Knowledge of learning theory and effective pedagogical practices

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build productive relationships with university leaders, faculty, and staff

  • Record of success in procuring external funding through grant and/or donor gifts

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusive teaching practices

Full-time employees are eligible to receive tuition waiver benefits, as well as dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.
