Job Summary

The overall purpose of this position is to provide financial responsibility (ie complete P&L responsibility) oversight for a highly visible operating unit (OU), Conferences, Events & Experiences (CEE), including the global Conferences line of business, operating around the world with 2,000 events in 100 countries each year. The Director, CEE Finance will interact with and advise senior staff and volunteer leadership of all OU's that host conferences, particularly the managing directors of Technical Activities, Member & Geographic Activities, and Conferences, Events & Experiences.

This role manages a staff of 6 or more direct reports, 3 indirect reports, and temporary staff or interns as needed or assigned. The configuration is subject to change on a go forward basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Managing Director, CEE the role will have P&L ownership, financial oversight and accountability of-IEEE's scholarly conference business, worldwide

  • Full responsibility for CCE budgets, forecasts, and financial closing financial reporting activities in cooperation with the MD-CEE

  • Additional areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: establishing and maintaining appropriate levels of internal control, supporting the internal audit process, acting as lead for the conference business for the year end audit process

  • Collaborates with BFS partners assigned to other OUs to ensure consistency of processes, experiences, and strategies

  • Acts as a liaison between their assigned OU(s), the CFO teams. Coordinates the implementation of updates to technology, processes and policies related to events as they evolve, in consultation with subject-matter experts such as on topics including financial reporting, tax and legal. Evaluates and recommends future planning and goals for the Managing Director and the business unit, related to these functions.

  • Responsibilities specific to CEE:

  • Contributes to the strategic planning for CEE & makes recommendations as necessary to develop goals, objectives, and priorities for the OU

  • Coordinates with other operating units on Product profit & loss statements (P&L's) when requested by Treasurers

  • Assist the CEE business unit with review and recommendation of processes for the following areas:

  • Scholarly Conference Finances - Tracking, reporting and overall review process for banking activity. Open new accounts for authorized events and close them at their conclusion

  • Represents CEE with Volunteer leaders at various IEEE Boards and Committees, including Audit, Finance, TAB, MGA and others, and supports various volunteer committees for financial data as requested

  • Counsels, partners, and collaborates with the Conference, GeoUnit, and S/C Treasurers, Finance Committees and Ad Hoc committees

  • Direct line of responsibility to the Senior Director, BFS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Finance/Accounting or related experience Req

  • Master's or other advanced degree Pref

Work Experience

  • 10-15 years Must have 10 years with proven financial experience in the area of events and experiences in an international setting. Req

Licenses and Certifications

  • CPA Pref

Skills and Requirements

  • Good working knowledge of IEEE financial systems

  • Good knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

  • Competency in addressing financial challenges and driving improvement within the organization.

  • Ability to recognize and analyze significant financial issues.

  • Skill in proposing effective solutions to financial challenges.

  • Proficiency in conducting financial analysis and interpreting findings.

  • Leadership skills in leading projects or initiatives to optimize financial processes.

  • Ability to identify opportunities for cost reduction or revenue enhancement.

  • Analytical skills in analyzing financial data and identifying trends or patterns.

  • Collaboration skills in working with cross-functional teams to address financial issues.

  • Expertise in conducting risk assessments and recommending measures to mitigate risks.

  • Knowledge and experience in managing cash flow and working capital.

  • Ability to identify opportunities for financial performance improvement.

  • Expertise in strengthening financial controls and oversight.

  • Skill in implementing new financial controls or procedures.
