Compensation includes a base salary of $156,200.00 - $260,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Cox is committed to continuing to drive growth and value through strategic investments and innovative financial strategies and is seeking a skilled and experienced Director, Capital Markets and Strategic Finance to join the Treasury and Investments organization at Cox Enterprises. This role is envisioned to have special emphasis on Cox's unsecured borrowing activities as well as investor relations related activities enterprise-wide. The team manages all capital market, treasury and investment activities for the consolidated companies, including publicly and privately issued financings, securitizations, oversight of company revenue and payment programs, strategic investment activities of defined benefit (DB) assets as well as the investment platform of the 401(k) defined contribution (DC) assets.

As Cox's portfolio of growth and investments continues to diversify, the capital structure becomes increasingly complex. Reporting to the VP of Treasury & Investments, the Director of Capital Markets will be responsible for leveraging expertise to lead the evaluation and execution of strategic financing initiatives and capital market strategies to support the company's growth and investments. This role has a key ownership for driving the overall liquidity strategy and will lead investor relations, marketing and advocacy, managing relations with financial institutions, rating agencies and other stakeholders to optimize the company's capital structure and support its strategic growth objectives.

Duties and responsibilities

Capital Markets/Financing Strategy:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive capital markets strategies to support the company's growth and investment plans as the company's portfolio diversification increases in complexity

  • Oversee the issuance of equity, debt, and hybrid securities to optimize the company's capital structure.

  • Manage relationships with investment banks, rating agencies, institutional investors, and other capital markets participants.

  • Monitor market trends, economic conditions, and investor sentiment to inform strategic decisions.

  • Serves as internal expert which will keep abreast of capital market conditions, interest rate forecasts and industry developments.

Strategic Finance:

  • Lead the evaluation and execution of strategic financing initiatives

  • Conduct thorough financial analysis, due diligence, and valuation to support strategic transactions.

  • Collaborate with the executive team to align financial strategies with the company's long-term goals and objectives.

  • Develop financial models and forecasts to assess the impact of strategic initiatives on the company's financial performance.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with capital markets activities and strategic transactions to safeguard the company's financial health.

Investor Relations:

  • Lead and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective investors.

  • Prepare and present financial reports, strategic updates, and investment opportunities to stakeholders, including ownership of required financial board materials and updates.

  • Overall responsibility for communications with investors. In total, Cox collectively has more than 20 bonds outstanding which total > $10B. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading investor calls to review company performance and bondholder concerns.

  • Managing dedicated website for providing investors with access to Cox financial information.

  • Managing distribution of weekly, monthly and quarterly compliance reports to lenders and trustees.

Rating Agencies Relations: Primary point of contact with credit rating agencies for corporate ratings and asset backed security ratings. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Managing development of annual update presentations to rating agencies, regularly leading presentation

  • Developing ad hoc rating agency communications and analyses

  • Monitoring Cox's performance versus rating agency criteria

Financial Disclosures:

  • Manage communications and disclosures to ensure transparency and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Obtains necessary input from other areas of treasury to ensure accurate financial disclosure reporting to other relevant areas including Accounting, Audit and Tax.

Team Leadership:

  • Contribute to building and leading a high-performing team of finance professionals.

  • Performance management and employee development ensuring succession readiness for future financial leadership roles.

  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the Treasury and Investment department.

  • Responsible for providing strategic influence with internal executives and leadership stakeholders from Accounting, Law & Policy, Growth Ops & Strategy, Financial Reporting, Tax and executives engaged in board support as well as external partners to include legal counsel, auditors, banks and other financial institutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related financial field with 10+ years of experience in capital markets, corporate finance, investment banking, or a related field. A candidate may also have a Master's Degree with 8+ years of experience or a Ph.D with 5+ years. A non-degreed candidate will have 12+ years of experience.

  • Proven track record of successfully leading capital markets activities

  • Deep understanding of financial markets

  • Strong analytical, modeling, and financial valuation skills

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience

  • Qualified candidate to demonstrate five or more years of increased decision-making autonomy and experience in Capital Markets, IR, Investments or Treasury. Emphasis to be placed on capital raising activities

  • Experienced consultancy and influence skills; keenly adept at influencing at all levels within an organization

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred

  • Professional certifications such as CFA, CPA, or similar are a plus

  • Telecommunications or Automotive industry experience a plus
