What you'll do...

The Director, Business Strategy (Inventory Accuracy and Visibility) will report to the Senior Director. In this role the selected candidate will lead innovation-related efforts to help bring visibility and accuracy to Walmart Store's Inventory levels.

What you'll do:

The Business Strategy Lead helps to organize, prioritize and is accountable for all transformational projects within Walmart Operations, serving as business lead / voice of the stores to ensure all tests are solving the biggest opportunities that our stores and customers face. The role leads several Senior Strategy Managers who act as project lead, helping to drive operating plans, store selection and managing deliverables, as well as owning all communication between home office and stores, ensuring feedback is shared and acted upon. The Director works to establish a strategic vision for each pillar, in this case we are focus on Inventory Accuracy and Visibility, helping to understand our current state and capabilities, as well as provide clarity on what an optimal solution might look like in the future. The Director and their Sr. Manager team then work in a four in the box structure, partnering with Product, Design and Tech partners to help craft a multiyear roadmap comprised of innovations and solutions that will ultimately drive toward the future optimal state. The Director will then partner with the Dallas Innovation Hub team to help guide project testing for each innovation, ensuring the project meets success criteria and eventually is scaled to chain, or requires a pivot/redesign before it's ultimately successful. The Director must ensure that the project is ultimately successful and achieves its stated goals; ensuring a singular focus on solving the problem rather than becoming enamored with any particular solution.

The role is ultimately responsible not only for crafting the strategic vision and roadmap, but also accountable to the projects' success in solving the biggest opportunities and strategic objectives. All projects are tested in our Dallas markets, and the Director will ensure every project has a credible business case, can be measured for performance appropriately, and will report regularly on progress toward financial goals.

The role's key priorities include the following:

  • Partner with Product and other business collaborators to design strategic roadmaps that leverage the appropriate solution

  • Ensure all projects have an identified and credible business case, financial value and success criteria for testing

  • Advise the organization on solutions and technology most appropriate for roadmap success, irrespective of organizational pressures or agendas; able to quickly identify a need to pivot and act decisively when needed

  • Ensure projects are prioritized and resourced adequately, ensures projects perform as expected and communicate progress or top issues weekly

  • Ensure feedback provided by Dallas Innovation Hub associates flows back to the 4itB and adjustments made to ensure project rollout success, in other words, ensure we understand all current defects and have a plan to solve them

The selected candidate will offer strong skills along the following parameters:

  • Process improvement focus and experience

  • Extensive inventory-related experience

  • Walmart store experience and/or Merchandise Operations a plus
  • Strong experience in product or related roles, including strategy

  • Strong analytics and KPI focus and experience working with data

  • Exceptional team leader, outstanding people focus, ability to mediate and de-escalate conflict

  • Experience with getting big projects across the line at Walmart - well developed project / program management

  • Strong written communication; ability to be concise

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Statistics, Social Science, Communications, or related field and 6 years' experience in retail merchandising, operations management, or related area OR 8 years' experience in retail merchandising, operations management, or related area.

2 years' supervisory experience
