Job Summary

As part of the Group Risk Management team (GRM), the Director, Business Continuity Risk Management (BCRM), CUSO, will be responsible for the Business Continuity Risk Management Program and achieving best-in-class global and US resiliency practices. You will be key in providing advice, oversight and challenge to business partners to ensure effective adoption of Program requirements across the combined US operations for RBC.

Job Description

What will you do?

  • Contribute to and execute on the vision, strategy and operating model for business continuity risk management, specifically for the combined US operations within RBC

  • Develop and direct the implementation of the US business continuity risk management monitoring, oversight and challenge programs and practices to ensure accurate view of Operational Risk Profile, while partnering with CNB and Enterprise.

  • Develop and manage the monitoring and oversight and challenge program in the US, covering all key BCRM program requirements for effective adherence to BCM policies and standards and appropriate controls are in place. Monitor and oversee the remediation of any issues for adequate risk mitigation.

  • Develop, implement and own the Business Continuity Risk Management Risk Committee for the US.

  • Interface with US regulators on the topic of BCRM and other types of Operational Risk examinations, as a business continuity subject matter expert.

  • Support implementation of ORM initiatives (e.g.: Internal Control Management Policy) and monitor for adherence to requirements, escalating concerns where required

  • Identify trends and direct research into areas of perceived elevated or emerging operational risk

  • Identify BCRM regulatory requirements for the US, collaborating with the enterprise BCRM Regulatory Compliance team, which will result in the updated requirements to the Enterprise BCRM Policy & Standard.

  • Provide BCRM risk mitigation strategies and advise senior management and executives in understanding and managing business continuity risk

  • Champion behaviors that embed a strong risk management culture across 1st & 2nd LOD, including strong awareness of BCRM practices within the US.

  • Provide oversight on the design and effectiveness of the internal control environment

  • Actively support 1LOD in establishing operational risk appetite that aligns with their with stated strategic objectives

  • Bring 1st Line of Defense insights from external sources such as ORX, Industry Events, Industry Best practices

  • Engage in external committees, forums and associations specializing in BCRM

  • Support Management and BCRM CoG to respond to information requests by regulators, supervisors, and statutory bodies (as required)

  • Monitor and analyze the design and operational effectiveness of a platform's control environment

  • Report US business continuity risk-related reporting and insights, and partner with the business to enhance reporting where required, to support executive management to build a perspective on operational risks and emerging trends

What do you need to succeed?

  • 10+ years' experience in BCRM (including incident and crisis management) and financial services industry or highly regulated industry

  • 5+ years' experience in project/program delivery related to BCRM

  • Excellence in communications skills and strong stakeholder engagement

  • Strong facilitation and Presentation skills, ability to communicate effectively with Senior and Executive Management and Operating/Oversight Committees

  • Experience in holding executive strategy discussions, including establishing the credibility and presence to be a trusted advisor with business leaders

  • Ability to transform overarching objectives into executable plan

  • Good knowledge of US regulatory requirements and best practices regarding Business Continuity practices globally

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $160,000- $240,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
