General Scope and Summary

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker to plan, develop, and manage innovative benefit and wellness programs, with a family-centric focus, that excite great talent to join our team, do their best work, and that are aligned with Sage company and HR strategy. Reporting to the VP, Total Rewards & People Operations, lead the Benefits function to effectively evaluate, design, implement, and communicate benefits strategy, programs, policies and initiatives that competitively position Sage in the attraction and retention of talent. We are seeking someone with a true passion for employee benefits and wellness programs who can both manage programs at a high level but is also willing to be hands-on developing all supporting benefits operational infrastructure.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Partner with the V.P. Global Rewards to create and drive strategy that supports building a workforce of top talent to help Sage achieve its growth strategies.

  • Develops and communicates the organization's total rewards strategy as it relates to benefits and wellness consistent with the company's Total Rewards Philosophy.

  • Research, design, and propose new or revised benefits offerings that align with the company's total rewards strategy of providing family-centric programs to our employees that differentiate us from our competitors.

  • Manages the Company's various employee benefit plans such as health, vision, dental, life and disability, and retirement savings.

  • Manage our 401(k) Plan; work with our retirement plan advisor and plan administrator including leading the 401(k) Committee.

  • Deliver excellent customer service by resolving escalated employee and HR Business Partner questions/issues by interpreting benefits policies/procedures and researching issues

  • Develop innovative communication plans to ensure employees have a clear understanding of the company's benefits and wellness offerings; acts as a champion of wellness programs and organizes wellness fairs, campaigns and other activities to drive participation and awareness

  • Facilitate annual benefits pricing and design efforts, including regular plan reviews in partnership with our benefits advisor and benefit providers. Provide necessary data to assist in preparing budgetary recommendations as well as information on utilization trends and program enrollment.

  • Manage the annual open enrollment process including communications, coordination with outside vendors, HR system changes, and any other oversight as needed.

  • Recommends improvements/enhancements to Workday Benefits to enhance and streamline the user experience.

  • Contributes to the development and evaluation of Request for Proposals (RFPs) from prospective benefit providers.

  • Maintaining a strong understanding of benefit plan design trends and regulatory changes. Manage and ensure all regulatory compliance related to benefit plans.

  • Responsible for managing international benefits programs.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate, and develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action. Proven track record in leading a Benefits function. Other requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline required. Master's degree is a plus.

  • Minimum 8 years of increasingly responsible experience within the benefits function including minimum of 3 years of managerial experience.

  • Experience of navigating and building through high growth is highly preferred. Industry experience within pre-commercial and commercial bio/pharma or other life sciences is a plus.

  • Experience managing benefits internationally, European experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of HR systems prior Workday experience preferred.

  • Leadership abilities as well as hands on problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to effectively work across levels, and functions.

  • Able to take initiative, effective at prioritizing multiple projects, comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution oriented.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: * M.D. degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience in drug development either in industry (preferred) or in academia. M.D. Ph.D. degree preferred. * Proven track record of strong clinical research skills, including publications. * Ability to partner with others to implement innovative oncology development strategies. * Experience in precision oncology/hematology preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employee frequently works in a professional office environment and lab with lots of computer/lab equipment, tools, and moderate amounts of noise and activity. Employee may occasionally be required to travel. The work environment is fast-paced and demanding. Off-shift, weekend and overtime duties may be required as assigned by the manager.
