Natera is looking for a Director of Automation and Laboratory Systems Integration to lead, design, develop, integrate, and support our automated systems and workflows in our clinical diagnostics laboratory environment. As a part of the R&D organization, this individual holds general responsibilities for efficient collaborations within cross-functional teams and provides directions for the establishment of a high-throughput automated environment meeting CLIA regulatory requirements.
Functional leadership and management of a team of Automation and System Integration and Technical Support Engineers.
Lead efforts under design control for development of LIMS-integrated automated processes, including the development of requirements and specifications for integrated systems performance.
Allocate and manage resources (people, budgets, and equipment) in support of company objectives.
Lead design and development of custom solutions for integration with automation systems and related software systems and tools.
Oversee and lead process development to ensure successful technology transfer of developed systems into the CLIA laboratory operations including QA-related documentation for equipment validation, operating procedures, and development of post-launch monitoring methodologies.
Oversee equipment and method testing, IQ/OQ/PQ.
Performs other duties as assigned.
BS, MS or Ph.D. degree in Biomedical engineering, closely related scientific field.
A minimum of 12 years of laboratory automation engineering experience required with a minimum of 5 years of relevant supervisory experience
Technical proficiency and experience in automation and systems development and integration for the life science industry, especially with robotics and liquid handling systems (Tecan and Hamilton preferred), required
A proven track record of success in product development and execution of technology transfers with LIMS-integration solutions in regulated environments required
Biotech, pharmaceutical, Lab automation providers, or clinical-laboratory experience required
Experience in process design optimization, DFSS is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong management skills, organizational skills, and written and verbal communication skills are required.
Flexibility and self-initiative required to support several simultaneous projects.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material.
Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) at times
Travels may be required.
