Job Description

The Director for Employer Relations of ASU Career Services contributes to the mission and goals of ASU by:

  • Strategically identify and build relationships with state, regional, national, and international employers for recruitment of university's students and alumni.

  • Evaluating appropriateness of employer expectations; assist with diversity recruitment; promote adherence to office procedures and deadlines, interviewing protocols, offer/accept lead times, and ethical/professional conduct. Discuss student feedback with employers and notify supervisor and executive director of problematic employer activities/behavior and significant trends.

  • Facilitating relationships between employers and the university community, including Students, Faculty, Staff, Foundation, Corporate Relations, other ASU career services colleagues housed in academic units, etc.

  • Working closely with employers to develop project-based experiential learning opportunities for students.

  • Conducting ongoing assessment of employer relation's efforts and provide feedback as to the effectiveness of such efforts.

  • Providing co-leadership for the employment relations staff in strategic planning and goal setting, monthly and annual reports, etc.

  • Researching and staying informed in national, state and local hiring practices, employment trends and other labor related issues.

  • Vetting employer and job opportunities within a wide range of industries

  • Working with colleague, Director of Career Readiness, in aligning staff efforts

  • Providing employer partner support to ASU Career Services at each of ASU's four campuses

The ideal candidate has exemplary interpersonal communication skills, has the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, is prompt with their follow-through and communication; appreciates and works well in innovative and evolving environments, takes initiative; has high attention to detail; is proficient in technology; is effective meeting with people on a one-to-one basis; has very strong, large group presentation skills; has successful proven experience in customizing programs, services and educational events; has program development and event planning skills; has experience collaborating across various disciplines/departments; and is committed to fostering an inclusive environment.

This position will handle numerous and various situations dealing with employers and students that center around, but are not limited to, issues relative to technology, scheduling, event planning, budget, logistical, public relations and legal issues. The Director may have oversight of staff.

The Director for Employer Relations will report directly to the Assistant Vice President in Career Services.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND eight (8) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Twelve (12) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Essential Duties

  • Build and maintain relationships with recruiters and employers from the nonprofit, government and corporate sectors. Maximize student employment outcomes, recruiting services and resources, and expand new employment opportunities for ASU students and alumni.

  • Provide excellent customer service and outreach to employers by following up on inquiries made to ASU Career Services, assessing recruiting objectives, recommending quality recruiting options and following up on proposed recruiting plans. Follows through with employers who have contacted ASU Career Services from initial inquiry to productive and quality recruitment.

  • Communicate regularly, meet and follow up with employers who have inquired about recruiting at ASU in order to develop recruiting plans, develop quality internship descriptions and programs that follow and adhere to FLSA, as well as, connect to appropriate venues and groups on campuses.

  • Manage the full vetting process and volume of new employer, internship and job approvals in Handshake-the University-wide recruiting platform for ASU.

  • Significantly grow the number of employers who consider ASU as a 'University of Choice' in their recruiting strategies.

  • Collaborate to on-board ASU departments into the Handshake platform including undergraduate research, internship programs and on-campus student employment.

  • Utilize Handshake to develop and manage internship and job postings with recruiters, organize major recruiting and hiring events (in person and virtual), promote opportunities to students, communicate with employers, track engagement and analyze data for decision-making purposes.

  • Run reports and perform operational business functions related to Handshake as needed.

  • Manage operational budget for Employer Relations including revenue generation and monitoring expenditures. Responsible for financial performance as it relates to current and future revenue generating opportunities. Informs annual budget goals and metrics.

  • Serve on the Associate Vice President/Executive Director's Senior Leadership Team.

  • Travel between each of the four ASU campus locations across the Valley using personal vehicle. Occasional travel out of Arizona.

  • The Director will become knowledgeable and understand the current Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) initiatives. They will be highly visible and support university functions, serving as a catalyst for mobilizing groups of students to events such as: Orientations, Game Day Activities, Homecoming, Fall Welcome Events, Family Weekend and other campus traditions.
