The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) is responsible for six agencies and departments: Career Services, Industrial Accidents, Labor Standards, Labor Relations, Unemployment Assistance, and Family and Medical Leave. The primary objectives of the Secretariat are to develop, coordinate, protect, and enhance the economic welfare of the Massachusetts workforce, and to formulate Labor and Workforce Development strategies for the Commonwealth.

EOLWD is committed to diversifying the Registered Apprentice workforce by expanding apprenticeship to new occupations and industries. The Director of Apprenticeship and Work-Based Learning is responsible for Program Leadership, Strategic Planning, and Partnership Development in the field of apprenticeship. In addition to recruiting, designing, and developing new apprenticeship programs, the incumbent will develop strategic partnerships with education, business, and industry partners across the Commonwealth to create new programs, provide input on relevant training and instruction provided, and seek sponsors for apprenticeships.


Applicants must have at least (A) five (5) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, professional internship, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.


I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

II. A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.

III. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience.

IV. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required experience.

The McKinsey MD Fellowship is an experiential full-time program for medical students who seek to become proficient in the business of medicine. This paid MD Fellowship program offers medical students between their third and fourth years the opportunity to spend two years as a McKinsey consultant, working with healthcare leaders in the private, public, and social sectors. Medical school students in year 2 or 3 can apply for roles that occur between their third and fourth year of medical school. The goal of the MD Fellowship program is to train future leaders in health care by providing Fellows with world-class apprenticeship in solving business problems and leading in the business context during a two year program. These skills will be of direct and lasting relevance in a broad range of future careers, including leadership roles in academic medicine, operations roles in clinical enterprises and strategic roles in business, policy and administration. MD Fellows serve on client project teams alongside traditional consultants, gaining broad exposure to health care businesses and business problems. They receive extensive day-to-day mentorship and apprenticeship from senior consultants. Fellows are also eligible for the extensive curriculum of professional development that McKinsey delivers to its new consultants, including >2.5 weeks of full-time learning programs in foundational skills, personalized coaching on developing as a leader, and on-demand access to McKinsey's library of >500 self-paced learning modules.
