No Duties and Responsibilities

  • Builds internal partnerships with faculty and administrators in order to gain awareness of current needs and plans for the future of the HSD. Understands priorities for strategic initiatives and priorities for the HSD, especially key directives to resonate with alumni.

  • Works with the HSD Provost, SSOM and MNSON Deans and program directors to build enthusiasm and support for the priorities of each school/program. Represents leadership to clearly articulate overall mission and goals of the HSD and each school.

  • Responsible for developing and implementing alumni engagement strategies to build engagement with the ~15,000 SSOM, MNSON, former Dental School and Health Science graduate school alumni in the education and research mission of the HSD. This includes alumni volunteer management, event and program planning; development and marketing; in collaboration with the Deans, Faculty, Advancement staff, and other internal/external partners.

  • Manages special events for the HSD including alumni reunions, and engagement events, alumni board-sponsored events to engage alumni and students in the research and education mission.

  • Serves as lead contact with LUC Special Events, Alumni Relations and University engagement teams.

  • Works as part of team focused on increasing alumni engagement, especially the HSD Annual Giving, communication and development teams in the mission and priorities of the HSD.

  • Coordinates alumni communications and messaging, especially as it relates to the alumni magazine, annual reports, and e-communications. Works in concert with HSD Advancement Communication on alumni communications.

  • Works well within a team-based environment with other Advancement and communication professionals to achieve these goals.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Bachelor's degree and four to seven years of experience in Alumni Relations, Public Relations, Communications or related field required.

Qualifications

  • A proven ability of project management and to compile complex reports and presentations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with alumni constituents.

  • Ability to set priorities and complete work in a timely manner.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to staff events during evening or weekend hours.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with database software packages.

General Summary Reporting to the director of alumni relations, the associate director will support the development and implementation of mutually beneficial alumni programs and services which align with the goals of advancement and the university. This person will be responsible for the overall management of numerous alumni affinity groups and reunion committees including event planning, volunteer recruitment and management, oversight of budget and increasing alumni involvement and annual giving participation. The associate director will be responsible for the management of two assistant directors who focus on local and regional alumni engagement. Responsibilities & Duties * Planning: * Work with director of alumni relations and fellow staff to establish goals for alumni relations and programs that reflect the priorities of the university and advancement. * Develop strategic annual alumni engagement plans for targeted audiences in collaboration with the director of alumni relations and direct reports. * Relationship Management: * Initiate and develop relationships to effectively coordinate and implement strategic direction and volunteer management for numerous alumni affinity groups and reunion committees. * Manage two assistant directors who focus on local and regional alumni programming. * Establish and maintain relationships with other alumni relations and advancement staff, key personnel in the university and relevant contacts in the greater community. * Work closely with annual giving to increase alumni volunteers' participation in giving. * Event Management: * Create and implement activities and opportunities for various alumni constituencies that are aligned with the mission and vision of the department and the university. * This includes pre-event coordination, on-site staffing and appropriate communication and marketing as well as post-event follow-up and data collection for all meetings, activities and programs that maximize alumni affinity and participation. * Oversee development and implementation of local and regional alumni programming. * Communications and Marketing: * Represent alumni relations and the university to numerous constituencies in a variety of settings. * Work in conjunction with communications team and fellow staff on communications needs for targeted alumni engagement initiatives including event promotions, social media efforts, event and program collateral and other projects as needed. * Prepare written and oral reports as needed. * Performs other duties as assigned. Education & Experience * Bachelor's degree with emphasis in liberal arts, communication, marketing or related field. * Minimum 5 years experience. Managerial Responsibilities * The associate director will manage two assistant directors. Financial Responsibilities * Responsible for creating an annual budget for affinity programs and overseeing the budget for regional and local programs. * Responsible for the ongoing monitoring of income and expenses related to these areas and identifying potential future needs.
