What is this role really like?
The Director, Alliance Management is responsible for managing and optimizing the value of Mirati's partnerships across its portfolio at all stages of the product life cycle (research, development, and commercial). This individual serves as primary point of contact for one or more partnered therapeutic programs across geographic regions as well as CDx, external drug supply and non-exclusive or other strategic relationships. This individual will be responsible to maintain alignment between internal and partner teams, managing communication, escalation of issues and stakeholder engagement. The Director, Alliance Management will be responsible for ensuring that terms of the partnership agreement are adhered to by all parties.
This position reports into the VP, Program and Alliance Management.
Day to Day Duties:
Support and lead, as the primary point of contact, multiple global alliance partnerships across all areas of the company
Convene and align internal stakeholders, in close coordination with our Program Managers, for each relevant alliance, ensure effective interactions between the parties to align on point of view on all issues
Monitor all alliance related activities and lead efforts in resolving issues regarding effective communication, conflict, or role clarification, including leading impasse resolution between companies when necessary
Identify areas of discordant expectations between organizations; create and present solutions
Chair joint steering and/or joint development team meetings with representation from both partners
Monitor contractual obligations and deliverables for both Mirati and its broad base of partnerships to ensure contractual responsibilities and financial budgets/obligations are met
Measure alliance performance and implement action plans for continuous improvement across Mirati's alliance portfolio
Implement strategic initiatives, processes and tools to enhance alliance management capabilities that enable Mirati to achieve or exceed its alliance objectives
Identify opportunities to strategically enhance active alliances, in coordination with internal stakeholders
Support Business Development in defining alliance terms and then implementing new or revised alliances
Must possess exceptional organizational and communication skills
Solid understanding of discovery research, process development, technology transfer, clinical development, GxP and regulatory processes, reimbursement and global commercial dynamics in the biopharmaceutical industry
Strong interpersonal skills and business acumen, excellence in building and managing relationships, ability to understand perspectives, find common ground and effectively bridge significant differences
Detail-oriented while also retaining the ability to see the big picture
Demonstrated problem solving skills with strong business skills/acumen
Proven ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlines
Experience working on cross-functional teams, including senior management members, to accomplish shared goals
Minimum of a BA/BS degree is required, while an advanced degree is desired in a discipline related to drug development or business
8+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences or related industry, preferably in commercial, business development, or project management role
2-5 years of experience in alliance management, project management, business development or related function
Some travel required (10-15%)
Computer skills proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
