JOB SUMMARY:

Serves as Director of Advising and Professional Development Programs for SCIENCE. Plans, designs, creates, directs and provides assessment for advising and professional development programs. Serves as both the Lead Advisor and Registration Coordinator to the University for SCIENCE. Leads SCIENCE efforts to retain high caliber students in SCIENCE majors. Develops and updates informational and promotional materials. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

35% - Essential

  • Program Management: Lead advisor for SCIENCE and oversees the advising processes of the college. Provides leadership for SCIENCE orientation programs. Acts as the SCIENCE Registration Coordinator to ensure department/unit schedule building processes are in compliance with university established practices in schedule building. Conducts assessments of schedules using the Scheduling Compliance Dashboard.

25% - Essential

  • Marketing, Recruiting and Outreach: Assists SCIENCE development staff to engage alumni and fund raising for additional scholarship funding. Plans and directs events to engage undergraduates with Alumni, faculty and staff, and other professionals. Collaborates with public information professionals in SCIENCE and across campus to plan, write, edit, and update informational and promotional material for programs to ensure consistency in SCIENCE programs such as brochures, tapes, videos, public speaking engagements, PowerPoint presentations, and web sites. Assists with on-campus and off-campus event planning and recruitment programming, including: Tigers On Call, fall and spring blitz, campus visits, college open houses, off-campus appearances, summer programs, and correspondence with prospective students and their families.

  • Assessment: Researches and analyzes demographic and statistical data to evaluate advising programs and make revisions and/or improvements in existing programs. Benchmark national best practices in student advising and coaching in the sciences. Track student success metrics and markers for success.

  • Retention and Engagement: Leads SCIENCE retention efforts in supporting campus wide early intervention programs developed to retain first year and transfer students. Develops programs at the College level to support retention and engagement efforts in collaboration with SCIENCE Director of Alumni Relations & Director of Industry Partnerships (shadowing experiences, internships, career planning, etc).

10% - Essential

  • Supervision: Supervision of advising assistant including hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance, and administering corrective action.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Expected Salary Range: $45,500 - $70,000

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Normal Operations

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
