DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DIRECT CARE WORKER)

The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) is seeking an experience and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Direct Support Professional (Direct Care). This position requires a caring individual to assist members who have Developmental Disabilities (i.e., autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability or epilepsy) ranging from moderate to severe.
Flexibility schedule is a must (i.e., work different shift, overtime and change work locations) as these are 24-hour residential settings. Most schedules work nights, weekends and holidays.
Requires lifting/carrying at least 50 lbs. and pushing/pulling at least 50 lbs.
Base rate of pay is $11.44 per hour. Shift differential rates are paid for 2nd shift (5% increase, $12.01 per hour) and 3rd shift (10% increase, $12.58 per hour)
Encourages and involves members with developmental disabilities in recreational activities available at home or in the community during leisure time
Work with members to teach or assist them in activities of daily living skills (bathing, toileting, dressing, meal time/eating, attending day/work programs, etc.).
Communicate (verbal and/or written), reads, writes and follows directions; implements Individual Service Plans (ISP) programs and strategies, collects and records data
Administers, orders and stores medications of members according to doctor's orders
Prepares, cooks, sets up, serves and assists members with developmental disabilities in eating meals; encourages member participation in meal-time process and ensures nutritional requirements are met
Performs some housekeeping duties (e.g., dusting, clothes washing, dishes, mopping, disinfecting therapy equipment and wheelchairs).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Providing personal care
Cleaning and basic housekeeping
Planning activities designed to meet specific needs of individual members
Communicating with members verbally and/or through basic sign language (knowledge of or experience in American Sign Language is not required)
Time and work management
Participating in and implementing Individual Support Plans
Using a computer, including email
Display compassion with respect to others
Attend staff training
Apply the basic principles of program training and data collection designed to meet the specific needs of members including medication administration
Learn and use nutritional principles and special mealtime techniques
Learn and apply behavior support techniques
Have a current, valid state issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employee is subject to driver's license record checks and must maintain an acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration, and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12)
Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees
Successfully pass background and reference checks. Employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency's ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
Employee shall have a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-2758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults
Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459
