Direct Support Professional, DSP

East Baltimore City, MD

M-F 8:00am to 3:00pm (35 hours/Full time)

"I enjoy museums, nature, trains, dinosaurs and history. He like to engage only when its on my terms and I trust you. My ideal DSP would be someone that can think outside the box, enjoys art, science and being in the community. They also have to be okay with my plethora of assorted books and my ipad that is use daily"

Humanim's Baltimore City Day Program is looking for an individual that has similar interest as the individual mentioned and wants to make that difference on a daily basis with a person centered approach.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED equivalence

  • Bachelors' degree in psychology/related field or 2 years relevant experience preferred

  • Valid driver's license

  • Transportation and willingness to transport individuals in the community (to and from home, if needed).

Persons with experience in working with in DDA day program settings are encouraged & with teaching or leading a group experience that want to give back in a meaningful manner are encouraged to apply.

We are members of the NADSP and we offer DSPs the opportunity to become certified as a DSP. There are three (3) levels total and there is not only an opportunity to grow in the field but an opportunity to advance salary wise and build the resume for the next career opportunity within the organization.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities * Assesses patient's physical, mental, and emotional status and changes in patient's support system. Assesses patient's and family's knowledge of health problems. Observes, records, and reports changes in patient status to the case manager. * Contributes to the achievement of established goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Completes annual Code of Conduct, Compliance and other mandatory training. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. * Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and agency in community outreach efforts. Enhances growth and development and enriches personal knowledge and skill through participation in educational programs and affiliations. * Participates in care planning and development of patient goals. * Participates in the implementation of care plan interventions, including teaching. Under the guidance of the case manager, provides direct nursing care according to physician's plan of treatment; administering selected treatments and medication and performing procedures in accordance to agency standards of practice. Provides for emotional support and physical comfort and safety of patients. Assists with the rehabilitation of patients and encourages independence in activities of daily living according to patients' capabilities and potential. * Performs other duties as assigned. * Under guidance of case manager, evaluates patient and family response to plan of care and effectiveness of teaching. Documents patient/family progress toward goals and outcomes according to agency clinical record policy.
