Under the general direction of the CNO & VP, PCS, the Director of Behavioral Health Nursing will lead the team to meet both strategic and operational objectives of the program, including providing daily support of unit operations. The Director develops, maintains and periodically updates departmental Policies and Procedures to ensure continuing compliance with all accrediting and regulatory agencies. The Director will assess department performance and quality of service in relation to established goals, policies and procedures. Provide guidance, leadership and structure to both the Unit 1 team and the CBAT team.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with both the CNO and other members of senior staff, will participate in the process to develop a program strategy that is quality driven and financially viable, by analyzing historical trends, current and future demands, and assessing the needs of our patients and families. From the program strategy, develop departmental goals and objectives at least annually. Develops and submits recommendations for staffing, supplies, and capital expenditures.
Work with the Leadership Team in each unit to assure that staff is fully trained, engaged, and available to meet the staffing demands. Coordinates with Human Resources to maintain effective recruitment, training and retention programs.
Assures that all policies and procedures are carried out in accordance with professional standards of practice, accreditation standards, and license or regulatory requirements.
Prepares new policies/procedures and approves changes to policies and/or procedures
Identifies program needs, program planning and prepares any new policies and procedures.
Fosters and supports Family -centered Principals on each Unit.
Monitors staff productivity; reviews staff assignments to assure effective coverage of patients and completion of designated tasks. Assumes increased patient load when necessary.
Assures that patient records are current and in compliance with documentation standards
Directs the department's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QA/PI) activities. Provides input and review of PI initiatives and assures staff participation.
Attends and participates in assigned hospital, administrative and patient care committees and meetings in the absence of the clinical supervisor.
