The Director oversees and is responsible for all aspects of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, a membership-based program designed for adults aged 50 and over. The director is accountable for the Institute's continued development and ensuring its position as a valuable program within the University and the community.
Additionally, under direction from the Dean of Extended Studies, this position supports the mission of the Division of Extended Studies -- to extend higher education beyond traditional boundaries.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Administration & Budget:
The director oversees all administrative functions of the Institute, including but not limited to:
o managing finances and producing annual budget,
o monitoring endowment funds and Foundation reports,
o supervising two full-time staff positions,
o managing the participation of a volunteer Advisory Board, in accordance with approved bylaws, and serving as ex-officio board member,
o strategic planning,
o marketing and communication,
o scheduling and registration,
o evaluating member and presenter satisfaction,
o submitting an annual report
Work in partnership with Extended Studies' Senior Business Manager to ensure Customer Services team provides appropriate level support and technology to meet program needs.
Administer and promote the annual Osher Faculty Grant program.
Stay up-to-date on best practices of higher ed program management and utilize resources available through the National Resource Center, and other professional development opportunities.
Oversee the Institute's Travel program and strategically partner with national and international travel providers, accordingly.
Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Extended Studies.
Programming & Outreach:
With the assistance of volunteer curriculum committees, develop high-quality, diverse noncredit curriculum to meet the intellectual and social needs of members and to keep pace with Institute growth and budget goals.
Be attuned to members' interests and cultivate campus and broad community relationships that favor Osher programming opportunities and collaborations.
Stay informed of noteworthy faculty, research and academic projects, and relevant developments on campus that have Osher programming potential.
Represent the Osher Institute at community and campus events; give presentations to various community and campus groups, promoting the Institute and benefits of lifelong learning.
Maintain strong relationships with representatives of the Osher Foundation and the Osher Institute National Resource Center. Attend national conferences.
Be accessible to and regularly interact with members at program activities.
Fundraising and Friendraising
Maintain and update the fundraising plan to meet or exceed annual goals for the Osher Excellence Fund.
Foster a culture of philanthropy within the Institute and encourage sustainable, donor-centric giving.
Work closely with key Advancement and Foundation staff to strategically develop major and planned gifts involving the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the University at large.
Write effective communication pieces for annual solicitations and demonstrate impact of giving.
Maintain and develop philanthropic community partnerships that support the Excellence Fund.
Personally acknowledge all gifts received.
Non-profit management/leadership experience
Experience leading a lifelong learning or continuing education program
Program development experience
Experience working in higher education
Communications and marketing experience
