JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Field Merchandising is responsible for driving the implementation of best practices and achieving consistency among stores for the 5P's - Product, Pricing, Promotion, Placement and Procurement for the total store in order to maximize the customer experience, sales, margin and help ensure that our stores meet their targeted projections and goals. This position will take guidance, direction and input from the Sales Leaders and will implement and manage plans through collaboration with a well-trained and developed team as well as through a strong partnership with the Operations team.


  • Is the strategic owner of key initiatives and works through the sales and ops leaders to ensure buy-in and complete and timely execution. Examples: Store Merchandising Walks & Plans, Holiday Executions, Merchandising Vision & Training, Focus Store improvement, Remodels & New Stores.

  • Plays a lead role with Operations to ensure bi-lateral support.

  • Assumes the lead role in developing best practices, simplified and more effective communications to the stores.

  • Owns the development and implementation of our Merchandising Vision and Strategy across all departments.

  • Owns the development and implementation of any training programs facilitated by the Merchandisers.

  • Provides key input for Merchandiser/Training annual reviews.

  • Provides consistency, unified communication and simplification for projects that impact all/most departments in the stores.

  • Through collaborative work and influence, guides the team of professional field merchandisers who can impact, train, manage and implement programs within all areas of the store.

  • Ensures that the execution of our merchandising strategies takes form in the store in a fashion that is customer friendly, while maintaining maximum sales and profit potential.

  • Through coordination with Sales and Ops leaders, guides the team to quickly deploy, implement, train, guide, inspect and report on key programs and initiatives.

  • Acts as a store representative and an expert in merchandising tactics as programs are being developed.

  • Collaboratively schedules team coverage to ensure complete coverage of stores and departments.

  • Takes actions that ensures the Field Teams are current on the needs and expectations of the organization both at Store Level and at the Sales Department level.

  • Assures stores meet sales, expenses, gross and net profit objectives while monitoring implementation of corporate merchandising programs and operational standards.

  • Assists with communication between store support/corporate and store staff and shares goals and objectives.

  • Clearly communicates and enforces standards for quality, customer service, safety, loss prevention, store conditions and food safety to the department and the store. Works with all levels of management in design and implementation of strategies for compliance and actively works with store personnel in the promotion of safety and achieving a ZERO accident safety culture.

  • Assess talent within the store levels and their own department and recommends ways to acquire and train individuals in department to elevate to other positions (Store Director).

  • Reviews store level sales volume, budgets, expenses and profit plans and develops improvement/action plans and programs with the Store Director, Department Sales Directors and District Manager to achieve objectives.

  • Maintains current knowledge of market conditions and competitive pricing through periodic reviews of competition.

  • Understands and comprehends all financial reports needed to manage the business.

  • Reviews programs prepared by Department Directors, recommends adjustments to meet local conditions and works with Store Directors and team on action plans to implement.

  • Assist/develop special ad events, corporate wide and store specific with knowledge of ad profitability and effect on department sales and gross margins.

  • Meets with Operations leadership regularly, and reports on opportunities for joint improvement.

  • Sets the example of the desired culture, values and philosophies of the organization.



  • High School diploma required with Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience plus 5-10+ years of product knowledge to include product origin, handling and presentation options, in a retail environment, with increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Working knowledge of department and experience managing multiple departments, either perishables or center store

  • Excellent written and communication skills demonstrated in previous positions.

  • Bilingual/ Spanish-English

  • High level of analytical skills and organization skills with good computer skills and experience using Excel and PLU system.

  • Ability to coach, mentor, train and develop others; lead change and innovation; execute with excellence and provide clear strategic direction.

  • Must have valid California Driver's License and ability/own transportation to travel within district

  • Flexible Schedule to work any day and any shift.


  • Food Safety Certification required.

  • Fork Lift Certification required

  • 2 hour Sexual Harassment Prevention Training required

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: * Provides Curative/Emergency Service, Preventive Maintenance, Updates (TSBs), at customer's facility * Installs instruments at customer's facility, sales demos, product shows, etc, to ensure full functionality according to Diagnostica Stago specifications. * Adheres to all company policies and procedures. * Documents and records information to be included in the repair records in accordance with SOPs and regulatory agencies. * Analyzes, reviews and inspects findings to determine source of problem via telephone and/or on-site. Performs trouble shooting to repair, replace necessary parts, or other corrective action to ensure optimal operation on analyzers per SOP. * Demonstrate proper operations to end users. * Coordinates problem resolution within Field Support Group and other personnel to expedite repair. Minimize down time and drive Customer Satisfaction. * Provides a communication link between the customer and the company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer. * Responsible for effective management of company resources and equipment such as parts, tools, trunk stock, etc. * Special projects/tasks as assigned by RSM. * Escalate all open or reoccurring issues in a timely manner for prompt resolution per SOP. * Provides application assistance/ troubleshooting as required. * Conducts basic on-site in service training of proper operation of company instrumentation. * Supports Sales, technical support and Marketing departments to foster teamwork and synergy. Skills: * To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database and Internet software; Windows NT, XP and DOS. * Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. * Ability to write routine reports an d correspondence. * Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of this organization. Education & Requirements: * High School diploma or general education degree (GED) with minimum 3 years related experience troubleshooting and repairing diagnostic equipment with field experience required, or Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or a certificate from a Technical/Military School in a related field. Bachelor's degree in related field from four-year college or university preferred. * Valid Driver's License. * Ability to travel outside of designated territory, if needed. Up to 75% overnight travel may be required depending on territory. Occasional weekend/holiday on-call coverage for the region. * Ability to travel by common air carrier, or rental car as needed.
