TITLE: Diploma + CTE Specialist

LOCATION: Central Office and Training Center

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings.

With Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 51% Hispanic, 27% African American, 11% White, and 7% Asian. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,600 teachers.

JOB GOAL: Enhance CTE program quality and effectiveness through curriculum alignment, program evaluation, logistical planning, stakeholder communication, and professional development, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and promoting program visibility and growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Understands, assists with, and promotes high-quality curriculum and instruction aligned with the CTE competencies.

  • Works with the CTE Coordinator to perform program evaluations, design program improvement plans to target specific areas of need and ensure proper vertical alignment of all CTE programming

  • Maintains accurate inventory of CTE purchased supplies and equipment.

  • Partners with the district's TIS and DERA departments to maintain program data and create reports needed to satisfy KSDE, district and partner requirements.

  • Provides logistical planning for professional learning opportunities for CTE staff that is aligned with CTE goals

  • Maintains records of and supports implementation of industry recognized credentials in pathways.

  • Partners with CTE Coordinator, building administrators, teachers and industry partners to offer appropriate industry experience for pathway students

  • Responds to inquiries from various internal and external parties (e.g., advisory boards, formal partnerships, district staff, government agencies, other schools, public, students, etc.) to provide information, facilitate communication among parties, and provide direction.

  • Participates in professional organizations, disseminates information to other professionals, and represents the district professionally and positively.

  • Supports the development of Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)

  • Works effectively with other district departments to determine curricular needs and to guide CTE curriculum decisions

  • Works with CTE staff and teachers in forming, maintaining and growing advisory committees.

  • Participates in or leads meetings, workshops, and seminars to support the professional development of CTE staff

  • Collaborates with Diploma+ staff to support WBL opportunities, industry-recognized credentials, certificates and appropriate post-secondary education or employment pathways.

  • Collaborates on budget development for CTE operations.

  • Promotes the CTE and Diploma+ program through outreach, marketing, and communications.

  • Provides active leadership and support for effective instructional strategies, techniques, and methods grounded in research to impact KESA goals and District Strategic Plan.

  • Demonstrates high levels of proficiency in leadership behaviors and professional Deportment.

  • Maintains a variety of detailed records in various written and electronic formats.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Diploma+

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience preferred in career and technical education or related field.

  • Master's Degree in an Educational Field preferred.

  • Knowledge of CTE programs and associated grants preferred.

  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation preferred.

  • Experience and expertise in data analysis and management

  • Ability to generalize concepts to multiple contents

  • Excellent organization and planning skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Knowledge of the district's core values

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with school personnel and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the educational needs of students. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Performs other related work as required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 261 days

SALARY: Based on KCKPS Classified Salary Schedule

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORT TO: Diploma+ Director

EVALUATION: The performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy
