Printpack, a leading manufacturer of flexible packaging, is seeking qualified candidates to fill two (2) positions of Digital Plant Technician at our Villa Rica, GA Campus. This position will report to the Digital Plant Manager.

Primarily Night Shift (Sun

  • Thurs, 40 hours) but must be available to work flexible shifts and overtime as needed to accommodate customer demands.

Starting Pay: $20.80/hour + $1.00 Night Shift Premium (pay based on relevant experience)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must have High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

  • Must be able to read and follow directions in English

  • Ability to work any schedule including 8-hour, 10-hour, or 12- hour rotating shift, which may include nights and weekends

  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot problems

  • Ability to follow directions clearly, work well independently, multi-task, and work well in a team environment

  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills

  • Prior basic computer experience or aptitude needed

  • Mechanical aptitude and skills to perform technical adjustment and maintenance of the digital plant equipment

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Experience in operating mechanical / electromechanical equipment

  • Background and experience with customer mock-ups/packaging prototyping and assembly

  • Prior printing and production manufacturing experience

  • Prior adhesive lamination experience

  • Additional courses in Print Production or Operations and other similar functional areas

  • Relevant courses such as chemistry, electronics, color theory and physics

  • Background and experience in conventional offset press operation, process color printing, or digital press print production operations

  • Understanding the basic concept of prepress

  • One to three years forklift experience

INTERNAL APPLICANTS

  • Last performance review rated "Performer" or higher

  • No disciplinary actions beyond verbal within the past 120 days

  • May not be on Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)

  • Must be in current position a minimum of 120 days

  • Must be in non-probationary status

  • No current internal applications or pending offers

  • Strong concern for excellence related to print quality, ability to match and detect differences between colors including shades of color and brightness

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

  • Must be able to climb, kneel, bend, squat, grasp, push, pull and have fine motor skills

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time

  • Understands and utilizes common hand tools, including tape measure, good manual dexterity

  • Must be able to successfully pass Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test

  • Good visual discrimination

Overall Objectives: * Increase the success rates of trials and onboarding * Share technical knowledge between plants and product development * Identify gaps through process and trial retrospectives * Develop solutions for existing gaps by clarifying responsibilities across roles & functions Requirements: * Four (4) year degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science/Engineering, or a closely affiliated degree program. * 2- 5 years of experience in product development, quality process engineering, and/or continuous process improvement preferred. Less than 2 years will be considered based on previous experience in manufacturing and/or product development. * Understanding of flexible packaging technologies and processes (extrusion lamination/coating, adhesive lamination, coatings, material science). * Travel commitment: 15% (typically within the USA, for trials/meetings at customer, vendor, and Printpack plants) * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Project management skill, perseverance, initiative, a dedication to uncovering the truth, and accountability for self and to others are imperative for success in this role. * Six Sigma, Lean Process Improvement, or Statistical Process Control training preferred. Key Responsibilities: * Understand and communicate significance of opportunities and provide feedback to manufacturing. * Review upcoming trials in schedule and communicate issues/limitations to product development and manufacturing. * Participate in trial specific planning with product development and manufacturing * Attend trials and serve as plant contact for visitors for trials * Gather & communicate trial specific details (datasheet, instructions) to plant * Confirm and help establish SOCs for new specifications created for trials * Obtain, label and submit samples to PD, Customer, and CAS as needed * Assist manufacturing with information gathering for MTR's * Summarize gaps in the execution of the trial * Present weekly trial information to PLT * Assist PD by applying expertise in manufacturing capabilities to ensure design, control, and scale-up protocols are met on any new development * Supports installation and upgrades of assets for material Fit-For-Use * Provide engineering and technical assistance to Leads and Supervisors * Requests spec. revisions and deviations to optimize performance * Work with suppliers to determine when support can benefit new developments, improve process control and resolve quality issues * Plant leader of the AMQ process, * Provide periodic updates on raw materials, WIP, and finished goods associated with trials to assure we keep a "clean house". * Utilize data acquisition and visualization systems to drive analysis Printpack is proudly an equal opportunity employer.
