Digital Marketing Specialist

JHU Carey Business School is seeking a Digital Marketing Specialist with experience in project management and a strong background in digital marketing, specifically email marketing. Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Digital Marketing Specialist supports the development, planning, and execution of email marketing strategies to support Johns Hopkins Carey Business School enrollment goals for full-time, part-time degree programs and non-degree Executive Education courses. They will also serve as the project lead for reporting on email marketing efforts.

The Digital Marketing Specialist works in an environment with tight deadlines. This person needs to excel at project management (balancing multiple projects at once and managing detailed timelines), understand and align the school's marketing messaging with the student mindset, and must be able to work as an integral cross-functional team member. Successful candidates will have extensive experience with marketing automation tools such as Pardot, Marketo, etc.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Email Marketing Coordination and Execution (50%)

  • Set up, deploy and optimize targeted email campaigns via Slate to prospective students for full-time, part-time degree and certificate programs through the different stages of the prospective student funnel.

  • Set up, deploy and optimize targeted email campaigns via Pardot to prospective participants for Executive Education throughout the different stages of the prospective participant funnel.

  • Maximize efficiency and capitalize on the full marketing automation features and benefits of both Pardot/Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Slate.

  • Manage a detailed email communication calendar across partners with timing, target audiences, content focus, approvals, and initial metrics.

Email Marketing Data and Analytics (15%)

  • Create and manage performance measurement framework to be used across degree and non-degree programs email marketing efforts in line with best practice standards in reporting.

  • Provide recommendations to improve email campaign performance, increase brand awareness, and support enrollment goals for Admissions and registration goals for Executive Education.

  • Evaluate current processes and makes recommendations for process changes, then implements changes to create new guidelines or structure.

Enrollment Marketing (15%)

  • Ensure effective development and execution of enrollment marketing projects and campaigns.

  • Organize and coordinate annual updates to marketing communication plans, email templates, and relevant print materials for full-time degree programs, dual degree programs, and Executive Education.

Relationship Management (10%)

  • Work closely with Carey's cross-functional team members to support Carey's strategic priorities.

  • Serve as a collaborative member of the Marketing and Communications team, assisting with other marketing-related duties as assigned and as time permits.

Project Management (5%)

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to fulfill marketing requests as needed.

  • Effectively track and manage his/her projects using project management software.

Other (5%)

  • Possible website maintenance support, including photo updates, content updates, desktop research and competitive website review.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • High degree of proficiency in one or more of the following email platforms, such as Pardot/Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Marketo, or HubSpot.

  • Proven project management and organizational skills with experience balancing multiple projects and deadlines at one time.

  • Excellent time-management skills, along with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work creatively with a small, close-knit team on a variety of school-wide projects.

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Knowledge in higher education trends and market.

  • Adapts to workload and working conditions while maintaining a positive attitude and professional demeanor.

  • Knowledge of Pardot (Marketing Cloud) marketing automation tool and/or Technolutions Slate CRM platform a plus.

  • Knowledge of BrightEdge SEO tool.

  • Knowledge of relevant reporting tools such as Google Analytics 4, Google Looker Studio, and Tableau.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office necessary, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.

  • Must maintain a professional working relationship with faculty, students and staff.

  • Self-starter and can lead independently and proactively.

  • Must be a proactive communicator, keeping their manager informed on a regular basis of work progress.

  • Must be a team player, capable of interacting across all departments and functions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.

  • Two years related experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with marketing automation tools (e.g., Pardot, Marketo, etc.) very strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, communications.

  • Four years of digital marketing experience preferred.

  • Four or more years of relevant experience, preferably in higher education.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
