Why us, why now?

As a Digital Copy Editor, you will join the AAMC's growing digital communications team. You will contribute your substantial experience editing and proofreading in a quick turn- around, deadline-driven environment, with a focus on editing material for the web and other digital formats. You will collaborate closely with the AAMC's Digital Communications team, along with Creative Services, Marketing, and other Communications staff.

How will you make an impact?

Copyedit AAMC digital content

  • Copyedit a wide range of AAMC digital content and other written materials, such as news and research, on a quick turn-around, deadline-driven schedule.

  • Ensure that AAMC editorial style guidelines are followed consistently for all digital and print projects.

  • Understand and apply the appropriate style to any given editing project based on type of project, purpose, and audience.

  • In collaboration with the digital team, ensure that digital content complies with AAMC standards.

  • Propose text to improve titles, headlines, subheads, and basic text as needed.

  • On a limited, case-by-case basis, individual may support select, high-priority projects involving content produced by other Communications work groups, as well as those of other divisions across the organization.

Proofread AAMC digital content

  • Proofread a wide range of AAMC digital content and other documents.

  • In collaboration with the digital team, revise materials transitioning from print to digital so that they meet AAMC digital standards.

Work in the CMS to publish digital content

  • Build pages in the Drupal CMS, particularly article pages for AAMC news & insights content. Includes selecting and uploading images to illustrate and accompany content.

What will you bring to the role?

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field. Specialized training in copyediting and proofreading highly desirable.

  • 3-5 years of related work experience in an editorial role, focused primarily on digital content, but also includes a variety of written materials.

  • Sound knowledge of publishing processes (digital and print).

  • Experience editing and proofreading in a quick turnaround, deadline-driven environment.

  • Experience editing digital content and using a CMS; Familiarity with Drupal a bonus.

  • Knowledge of HTML a plus. Knowledge of editorial and production processes for digital and print.

  • Familiarity with project management software.

  • Strong working knowledge of and direct experience with AP Style.

  • Exacting attention to detail, excellent editorial judgment, strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to adhere to deadlines while providing professional, friendly, client-focused service.

  • Must be organized, task oriented, and flexible, and be an expert in prioritization, focusing on timeliness as the driving factor.

  • Must be able to work with multiple clients and have strong interpersonal skills.

If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
