Registered Dietitian (RD) is the medical nutrition expert responsible for independently planning, developing and directing nutritional care activities and programs for assigned home based primary care(HBPC) being seen at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System community based outpatient clinics. S/he supports the facility's mission and coordinates nutritional care with other health care providers, the patient, the patient's family and the community.

RD will be involved in the professional practice of dietetics, with minimal supervision in accordance with the guidance set forth in Nutrition and Food Service policies and procedures and VA regulations governing the practice of dietetics. Will be expected to use a variety of technologies to deliver care including but not limited to secure messaging, telephone coaching, home tele-health equipment, and all clinical video tele-health modalities, including virtual medical room (VMR) and video on demand (VOD). S/he is scheduled and assigned to the HBPC and outpatient area and must possess the required knowledge and skills in order to perform the following functions:
Nutrition Program Development and Education
Assesses educational program needs and provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups (including significant others), incorporating a learning approach that considers the cultural, religious, socio-economic, educational, and medical situation of the patient. Includes information regarding budgeting, menu planning, food purchasing and preparation, food storage and sanitation.
Conducts a comprehensive nutrition assessment according to policy to determine nutritional status, using the Nutrition Care Process, which may include nutrition focused physical findings.
Maintains productivity standards and safe work practices, effective time management, and prioritizing of tasks.;
Supports Performance Improvement activities by participating in the development of nutritional care indicators, evaluation criteria, collecting continuous quality improvement data, monitoring outcomes and initiating corrective actions.
Participation as a Member of the Health Care Team:
Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team which includes physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals.
Maintains dietetic registration, competencies and continuing education requirements.
Work Schedule: Tours are administrative days - a total of 32 hours a pay period, Monday-Friday. Work days are subject to rotate based on the needs of the department and Veterans.

Education and Supervised Practice- Bachelor's degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent and completed program in dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for ACEND, Completed a ACEND accredited or approved supervised practice program.
Registration/Certification. All application must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
English Language Proficiency. Dietitians must be proficient in spoken and written English
Incumbent operates a government vehicle as part of their job, this does not include operating a government vehicle solely for business travel. A valid Minnesota driver's license is required as part of the job.
GS 7: None beyond the basic requirement
GS 9: At least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or education equivalent to 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or master's degree from an accredited university or college in the field of dietetics or closely related field.
GS 11: At least 1 year of experience as a registered dietitian equivalent to the next lower grade level, or education equivalent to 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited university or college in the field of dietetics or closely related field.
