THE POSITION

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is now hiring for a Dietitian to join their team.

DISCOVER THE OPPORTUNITY TO

  • Receive, verify, and maintain all diet orders, communication sheets

  • Print patient diet roster daily;

  • Give menus to in-patient floors weekly;

  • Implement and evaluate the selective meal service provided to patients;

  • Assist floor staff in completing menus for clients and offers alternate food selections, when required;

  • Maintain filing system of all diet related-forms, documents, and resident food service records;

  • Modify and maintain daily patient's dietary information in accordance with the physician's written diet order, the patient's food preferences and/or allergies, and the meal pattern in accordance to the department's Diet Manual established by Nutrition and Food Service Department;

  • Check meal service conducted on in-patient units or tray line; and

  • Report inaccuracies in the processing of dietary information by the computerized system to management.

SWCMHS strives to provide high quality, compassionate and culturally competent mental health and substance abuse services to adults with behavioral health disorders who are indigent. With three locations throughout Fairfield County, SWCMHS, promotes and administers comprehensive recovery oriented services in the areas of mental health treatment and substance abuse prevention and treatment. These services include inpatient treatment programs and outpatient clinical services, as well as a wide range of additional supportive treatment services.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state facility or region this class is accountable for independently planning and coordinating the delivery of nutritional and food services to individuals in order to render optimal nutritional health.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Performs nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation;

  • Evaluates nutritional, psychological and cultural needs of individuals and plans dietary care accordingly;

  • Reviews medical history for conditions impacting dietary needs;

  • Develops and implements individualized nutritional care plans for assigned caseload;

  • Monitors and documents individual diet and weight changes;

  • Plans regular, therapeutic and special diet menus for individuals;

  • Orders and checks food items and kitchen supplies;

  • Supervises food preparation in residences and dietary department;

  • Consults on care and maintenance of kitchen supplies and dietary equipment;

  • Monitors food processes and sanitation procedures and recommends alterations as appropriate;

  • Provides nutrition and/or food service consultation and education to individuals, staff and family members;

  • Records pertinent nutrition information in medical records;

  • Maintains diet manuals;

  • Ensures nutritional services comply with relevant federal and state standards;

  • Oversees service of meals in dining rooms, cafeterias, cottages or other units;

  • Trains food service and direct care staff in the purchase, preparation and service of food according to dietetic principles and within a predetermined food budget;

  • Maintains records and prepares reports;

  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration and certification as a Dietitian issued by the Connecticut State Department of Public Health in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes Section 20-206n and 20-206r.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with The Joint Commission standards

  • Experience with dietary recommendations from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and retain registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and retain certification as a Dietitian issued by the Connecticut State Department of Public Health in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes Section 20-206n and 20-206r.

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
