Hall Health Center (HHC) at the University of Washington has an exciting opportunity for a Dietitian 1 (E S CNU). Hall Health Center is our student health care clinic. This new position will work closely with clinicians and campus partners to help educate students about nutritional health and provide dietary counseling to patients with a broad spectrum of medical needs ranging from low to higher risk. Under general supervision, the position will provide professional level nutritional assessment, education and medical nutritional therapy.

Hall Health Center is an essential service of the University of Washington and remains open during UW closures for severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency conditions. All HHC staff members are considered essential employees and are expected to report to work as usual in such events.

This is a 70-100% FTE position, and is fully onsite at Hall Health Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Care

  • 70%

Assess patient nutritional and health needs, counsel accordingly, and prescribe modified/therapeutic diets to address any dietary issues and support healthy eating habits.

Serve as a nutrition consultant as a member of the health care team.

Assess and make nutrition plan recommendations for patients with nutritional issues such as diabetes, disordered eating, hyperlipidemia, family risk factors, exercise-induced amenorrhea, health-at-every-size, etc., ranging from low to higher risk.

Work closely with medical providers and appropriately seek consultation to develop nutritional recommendations for patients.

Recommend to medical staff medication use or dosage to optimize nutritional therapy and address food and drug interaction for designated medications.

Review patient records as needed to assess dietary compliance with patient nutritional needs.

Administration and Other Duties

Work with Hall Health and campus partners to develop activities, communications, and outreach strategies that engage and educate UW students about nutrition.

Provide individual and group education about nutrition to optimize health and wellness and disease prevention.

Develop, organize, implement and evaluate nutrition education for patients while considering their budget, tastes, cultural norms, and health conditions.

Develop and provide continuing education on nutrition topics to provider colleagues.

Utilize the Epic electronic medical record to document patient care appropriately and in a timely fashion.

Read about and incorporate into practice the latest nutritional research.

Serve as a member of interdisciplinary teams.

Participate in quality assurance processes.

Implement and monitor state, federal, local and AAAHC standards regarding nutritional services.

May supervise or direct the work of others.

Knowledge and Skills:

Cultural competency and ability to work with a diverse student and patient population.

Knowledge of technical principles, theory, and practice of nutrition including design of therapeutic menus and medical nutrition therapy; therapeutic diet planning; instruction for special diets; and methods of food cost control.

Ability to work closely with patients and team members.

Excellent verbal and written communication.

Attention to detail.

Good research and analysis skills.

Ability to organize and schedule work; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; be a team player.

Interest in education and working in teams.

Knowledge of eating disorders and familiarity with different diets and a dietician's role in eating disorder cases.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor's degree involving major study in food and nutrition or dietetics.

Registration as a Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or eligible for registration at the time of hire and pass the registration examination within one year of date of hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1-3 years' experience working as a Registered Dietician.

Experience working with an electronic health record, ideally EPIC.

Experience working with students in higher education.
