Job Description Summary

POSITION: The Department of Nutritional Sciences invites applications for an on-campus, 12-month non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer to begin August 1, 2024. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The program director responsibilities must include but are not limited to:

1.Administers the Dietetic Internship (DI Program) by coordinating decisions regarding the admission and progress of graduate students in the program, serving as representative for the DI Program to the Graduate program, coordinating curricular actions for the program, maintaining program records, and managing the DI budget in coordination with the Department Head.

2.Provision or delegation of responsibilities to assure year-round coverage of director responsibilities in the absence of the director or in cases where the director's full-time appointment does not cover all 12 months. In programs where the program director assigns some responsibilities to other individuals, the director must ensure that all program director responsibilities are accomplished throughout the year.

3.Development of policies and procedures for effectively managing all components of the program and to ensure fair, equitable and considerate treatment of prospective and enrolled students/interns (such as program admission, retention and completion policies). Development and revisions to a handbook, assignment manual and preceptor manual, annually.

4.Intern recruitment, advisement, evaluation and counseling.

5.Maintenance of program accreditation, including: - Timely submission of fees, reports and requests for major program changes; - Maintenance of the program's student/intern records, including student advising plans and verification statements; - Maintenance of complaints about the program received from students/interns or others, including disposition of the complaint; - On-going review of program's curriculum to meet the accreditation standards; - Communication and coordination with program faculty, preceptors and others involved with the program; - Facilitation of processes for continuous program evaluation and student learning outcomes assessment, and; - Timely submission of required documentation supporting the graduate's eligibility for a Commission on Dietetic Registration credentialing exam.

6.Carry a minimum instructional load of 3-6 credit hours per semester, depending on the department's needs.

7.Travel to practice sites is required no less than annually.

8.Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Head of Public Health and Sports Medicine. Helps to ensure the success of the DI Program by performing all other duties as assigned.

SETTING: The Department of Nutritional Sciences employs 11 faculty members and is affiliated with the College of Human Sciences.

The department offers a baccalaureate degree with program options in Nutrition Science, Dietetics, and Wellness, and a master's, and doctoral degree programs in Nutrition. Opportunities to engage in collaborative research are supported by the Auburn University Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Disease Research Program, and the Auburn University Research Initiative in Cancer (AURIC). East Alabama Health, and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) provide additional opportunities for translational research. Auburn University's dietetic internship program, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), combines rigorous academic coursework with supervised practice in diverse healthcare and community settings. The program is accredited for 16 MS/DI students and up to 4 verification statement only students. Approximately 30 supervised practice placement sites are currently affiliated with the program and are in an approximate 60 mile radius of Auburn/Opelika, AL.

Minimum Qualifications

At the time employment begins an earned master's degree is required , credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, and eligible for licensure in Alabama. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, human relations, public relations, networking and organizational skills.

Computer proficiency preferably in Microsoft Office and online learning modalities. Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and interact professionally with all segments of the University community. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to make policy and procedure decisions. Must be detail-oriented and organized. Capacity for growth and leadership. Experience in teaching, online delivery of content, and accreditation requirements desired.

The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

At least three years of experience as a registered dietitian is required. Experience in dietetics education including teaching dietetics courses, creating and revising curriculum, advising students, and/or mentoring student research is preferred.

Experience in meeting accreditation, licensure, and/or credentialing requirements and program development, analysis, and evaluation is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with constituents and all levels of employees required.
