Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting the cook with regular tasks of producing quality food products at the proper temperatures and on time. Responsible for the regular care, cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas. Follow established policies and procedures of the dietary department.
Education / Licensure / Registration /Certification Requirements:
Must be at least 16 years of age
Must have the ability to read and follow instructions
Prior experience in a food service environment is desired
Prior experience in a long-term care environment is preferred but not necessary
Must have the ability to be compassionate and patient when working with residents and their family members
Must have knowledge of elementary math
General Job Functions:
Cleans and sanitizes assigned equipment and work areas
Replenishes food supply in the kitchen from storerooms and freezers
Meet scheduled meal and snack times
Follow cleaning schedules and perform cleaning duties including: clearing tables and trays; washing dishes, cleaning pots and pans, placing items in storage until needed again
Monitor and records each residents consumption of meals and drinks
Arrange and load meals onto trays and delivers them to resident's room and the dining room
Advises supervisor when supplies are low
Read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all supplies and use according to directions
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, dietary cardex and procedure manuals.
Setting up the dining room and serving residents
Assists residents that need help eating their meals
Assists cook or manager with preparing meals
Physical Demands:
Frequently required to lift and/or move 25 pounds
Occasional lift and/or move 25 to 40 pounds
Infrequently required to lift and/or move over 50 pounds
Frequently required to carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally carry up to 50 pounds
Frequently require to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell
Frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Work Environment:
Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles.
Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock
Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold and vibration
Noise level is usually loud
Substantial exposure to sharp-edged utensils and containers
Frequent work interruptions
