Job Summary: The Dietary Assistant is responsible for maintaining diet order accuracy, assisting staff and dietitians in ensuring that patients/residents receive meals and nourishments in accordance with dietary prescriptions and individual preferences, and identifying opportunities for and contributing to the improvement of quality, safety and costs, as related to patient, customer and employee satisfaction. The Dietary Assistant maintains familiarity with all menu offerings and is aware of diet modifications and other patient needs (i.e. allergies, neutropenic precautions, isolation, calorie counts, etc.) in order to assist patients with appropriate menu selections.
Graduate of high school or equivalent.
One year food service, nutrition, or related experience desired.
Basic knowledge of disease processes and nutrition care for patients in designated area required. Basic knowledge of therapeutic diets.
Ability to function well independently and as part of a team. Courtesy and diplomacy in dealing with patients, residents, BCHC staff, fellow workers and the department management team. Communicate effectively at all levels.
Thorough knowledge of appropriate and safe food storage methods, appropriate use of all utensils, equipment, and other items used in preparation, cooking, and serving of meals and subsequent clean-up operations.
Ability to compute and use computers for calculations. Ability to complete forms appropriately and maintain records. Basic math skills.Phone answering skills.Verbal ability required to read and understand written instructions, recipes and labels.
