Diet Aide (Pd, Variable) Monterey Park Hospital

Overview

Monterey Park Hospital, located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles, is a 101 bed acute care community hospital. Monterey Park Hospital has provided our community with advanced medical and culturally sensitive healthcare services for over 50 years.

Monterey Park Hospital is recruiting for a Diet Aide for our Dietary Department. This position is a per diem for variable shifts. This position reports to the Director of Dietary.

Responsibilities

The Diet Aide transcribes dietary information from diet order list, telephone and verbal orders into dietary records; checks and modifies patient menus based on established guidelines; prepares menus for tray service using diet orders; keeps necessary department records, delivers and collects patient menus; prepares food production tally; calculates tube feeding formulas and arranges for formula delivery; notifies clinical dietitians of patient consults and special dietary problems; checks all hot and cold foods on patient tray line for acceptability, appearance and taste; assembles and checks patient tray line, and works cooperatively with peers, fellow employees, patients and hospital staff.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent education. Must have the ability to communicate well both within the department an with other departments.

Must be able to handle verbal and written communications. Speak, read, and write English. One to three years experience in a hospital dietary department preferred.Food Handler card must be obtained within 30 days upon hire.

Must have basic knowledge in operating a computer to acknowledge diet orders in the electronic medical record and to print diet labels for patients. Must know how to operate basic kitchen equipment (coffee machine, toaster, blender)and take food temperatures. Must have knowledge in proper handling of kitchen tools (knives, utensils etc). Must have experience with hospital patient tray line.
