Jubitz Truck Service Center in Portland is currently looking for a Diesel Mechanic. Do you have experience servicing CDL trucks? Responsible for the safe and efficient application of a wide variety of repairs on heavy duty trucks including, but not limited to, electrical diagnostics, air and A/C systems, dismounting, repairing, balancing, wheel switching, mounting of tires, changing oil, changing filters, brakes, suspension, alignment, removal and installation of minor and major parts, and lubing while safely using a variety of equipment. Assist with keeping the facility clean to perform proper repair procedures in a safe environment. Provide timely service to the customer while also mentoring apprentice level technicians, ensuring their work is thoroughly inspected before the vehicle is released to the customer.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.

  • A minimum of two years oil changing experience and/or repair on diesel trucks required.

  • Valid Oregon and/or Washington Driver's License with a clean three-year driving record required; Class B and Hazmat Endorsement strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of various types of diagnostic scanners, a/c equipment, electrical and battery diagnostic equipment, tire service equipment and heavy duty truck repair equipment, including but not limited to air guns, air jacks, drill, buffers, tire bars, hammers and miscellaneous hand tools.

  • Ownership of applicable tools required.

  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated positive approach toward serving customers and supporting employees.

  • Ability to handle a complex variety of tasks simultaneously while maintaining professional composure and positive approach.

  • Strength to collaborate well with colleagues, while also maintaining independence with only minor supervision.

  • Basic computer skills a plus.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and write routine reports and correspondence.

This position functions primarily in a busy repair shop facility and will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee must be capable of working in a loud work environment with many distractions constantly. Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is required to frequently lift up to thirty pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration and to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

An Extraordinary Cummins Technician… * Embraces new technology for diagnostics and data gathering. * Focuses on a high level of customer service and communications. * Looks to develop their skill set and product knowledge through classroom, hands-on, and virtual training. * Readily adapts to a changing work environment and work assignments. Job Duties and Responsibilities: * Completes troubleshooting, repairs and rebuilds on engine products in a service workshop independently while coaching and developing less experienced technicians * Applies documented procedures and policies to perform diagnostics and complex repairs * Performs preventative maintenance based on assessment of engine * Completes required documentation, such as work completed documents, time sheets, warranty claims and quality forms, via handwritten or business system input screens * Completes training in line with skill and business requirements * Coaches and develops technicians and/or apprentices and transfers knowledge and experience to others; may provide work direction; may review repair plans, parts lists, etc * Maintains work area and tools for cleanliness and proper operation * Adheres to and ensures adherence of more junior technicians to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and reports any issues / incidents to their supervisor Skill Level A * Ability to train Service Personnel to develop their diagnostic skills * Able to identify opportunities for work process improvements and recommend appropriate action * Able to develop and maintain productive working relationships * Ability to prepare reports providing feedback on service interventions Skill Level B Skill Level A plus: * Ability to identify and resolve engine system failures relating to and impacted by component failure * Ability to guide / coach other service technicians through complex service interventions and diagnostic issues * Can resolve complex technical problems and have the ability to identify and up sell further service and repair opportunities. Education, Licenses, Certifications * Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred) * Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution * Locally valid driving permit (Preferred) Experience * Advanced level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products * Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians (preferred) Physical Requirements (times are approximate) * Standing 7.5 hours per day * Pushing/Pulling 4.0 hours per day * Sitting 1.5 hours per day * Lifting 1.5 hours per day Lifting up to a maximum of 80 pounds * Bending 3.0 hours per day Compensation and Benefits Base hourly rate commensurate with experience.
